So now when specs and footage?

*lol* @ Walter.. that's really great... so how does the DVX put all those progressive frames into an 60i or 50i minidv stream?! Never heard of pull down/up? *sigh*

I'm not talking about how a camera makes a picture but how you supposed HD set decodes it. Television set manufactures are like car manufacturers. It's about common denominator. If we can figure out an easy way of making a picture so it costs less to make and on your TV and you still think it's great then we've done our job. Here's one trick they do with projector HD units. Do a search under wobbulation.

That doesn't change the fact that it is possible to get 1080p in your living room. There are plenty of HDTVs available already that have the reverse pulldown built-in. He was just calling you on it.

I'm getting the vibe than Panny is doing extensive tweaking on the CCD and DSP processing to make this truly a Varicam Jr. What I mean is that they are attempting to tweak 1/3" chipset to maximum performance and get the best possible image out of 1/3" chipset current tech allows.

Very interesting stuff indeed.

That would be a safe assumption as that is the goal. We want the absolute best performance possible out of the camera and if you look at the picture taking system, lens, CCD assembly, DSP and then onto recording and you happen to be incharge of all of that, then we are working for the optimal on all fronts.

Best,

I'm well aware that there is no there is no 1080p HDTV transmission format. I never indicated there was... but you can record 24p data in a 60i stream and use reverse pulldown to extract the solid frames. As I've mentioned, there are already TVs that will do this for you.

There is no 1080/60p HDTV transmission format, that's true. But 1080/24P and 1080/30P are both valid ATSC broadcast formats.

And there are blueprints for cars that get 100 MPG too. Most of todays supposed 1080p sets don't even have inputs for 1080P. TV set manufactures use all sorts of tricks to make TVs "see" better but the reality is that most of the specs that you see on your TV aren't being live up to. BUt as I said, it matters little, there is so much more to why you think a set looks sharper, brighter, better, etc, than just a bunch of h-rez numbers. It's the reason why you can't tell what's showing Hd and what's not when you walk into Best Buy.

Some clarification. There is no such thing as you watching 1080p in your home. First off there is no 1080p transmission format and not a single source of HD broadcast is. I don't care what the marketing people tell you. They are trying to push the term 1080p because the profit margins on 720p sets are getting slimmer as prices drop.
Don't you love it when the Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. "big screen guy" tries to tell you stuff like that? And then you call 'em on it, and they're, like, "Uhh, uhh, uhh . . ." It's just like when the PC guy tries to sell me on 64-bit processors . . . "Yeah, but I have no 64-bit software."

God I hate it!

I was in a shop (US tranlation - store:) ) the other day and was looking at the HD TVs they had. They were running an SD broadcast and two guys were standing there talking about how much clearer the picture was on the LCD HDTVs than the SD CRTs. It actually looked worse because of the poorer contrast ratio and budget upscaling going on! I couldn't actually bear it and gave them a quick lesson on HDTV before the sales rep could try and sell them something they didn't need.

Has anyone ever read "The Emporer's New clothes?"
