So now when specs and footage?

I thought, like everyone else footage and specs would be at IBC but instead we have XL HD1 specs and footage

So, what's the next thing - will Panny announce the stuff at Resfest? Or is the cam behind schedule?

If the XL HD1 had a wide angle manual lens available instead of the 20x and still was under $10k, I might be interested, pending the "24f" stuff. But like the HD100, it's missing glass right now.

So, I'm still waiting for HVX info and footage before hawking my DVX100a.

Hi,

The camera is right on schedule. At ResFest you can see some footage we recorded. You will be able to tell the I am not a DP. ;-) The footage will not be released anywhere and the only reason that I have it on tape is I am not sure how the camera will take to having lots of people touch it over the next couple of weeks. I might surely die as it is pretty frail. I have noticed that it takes about 15 minutes to warm up. But this is all prototype camera things. It is only doing 1080i/60. The image is about 85% done. So why would I post this footage.

You guys should know us by now, why would we post footage that says, its not as good as it will be. Easier in person when you see the images, as the mages look very nice. We will have a final engineering sample the last week of October so after that given a bit of time to orchestrate the DP or DPs and we will have footage.

We did some preliminary tests yesterday in the lab with the camera and it is looking like about 7-8 stops of latitude, and the colors tracked all the way into the shadows. Nice!

So if you have a chance to come out to Res Fest, please do and you can see the little camera in the seminar.

All the best,

Jan

Because we said that we would show footage at IBC. Secondly as the camera is supposed to be able to do 1080i, why would it be a proble to show one of the frame rates/formats that it does. Why does any manufacturer show any footage along the way? To keep people interested. The footage at 1080i is very nice.

Best,

Jan

If it was finished, we would be shipping it. This is very typical of camera developent. The fact that it is not finished is pretty much on schedule. The DVX100 showed at WEVA in August 2002 and delivered in the beginning of October. It too was not finished. There is not a design problem or any problem, it is totally on schedule. We will be shipping NTSC units in December.

Best,

Jan

I did mean the prototype. Even the prototype is finished the production can take up several months.

But if everything is OK than it is just wonderful. I guess we in Pal land can't expect any HVX before next summer even the scheduled date is February.

Well the EU guys said 1st Q, 2006. So...

..that is absolutely within range, isn't it?

Jan, hope you had a good time for the rest of your stay in Amsterdam :)

Best,
PK.

We always have to wait...

Guess it isn't much to do with you though...

Not always man. You can already get the JVC one in the UK. They don't have it in the US yet.

So, not always.

Yeah, I know, that was an unusual move by JVC.

Jan,
I don't want to get greedy since it was very nice of you to post back so quickly not only once but several times. Also, I know that what I'm about to ask is either not happening or top secret, or even worse: Allready established and since I've been dropping by less often I don't know about it!
It seems the two big questions aside from the footage release date and location are the chip specs and the whole fps part where we are wondering what stops will be included and wether ramps will be possible. I know that ramps are 90% not likely, but has it been decided if we will be getting the official answers to these questions at Res Fest? Maybe just one of the two? Pleeeeease...

Egad! Gotta love hard work and good codecs! =D

I can actually asnwer partly for this one... after talking at length with Jan at IBC...
No it won't do ramps. it'll have 12 speeds in 720..those final speeds have not been set/released.
The chip specs are beeing kept under raps, but the general consensus is that they propbably upsample to 1080 a little.. this allows for larger pizels and better dynamic range.

wonder if Panny is using the 1440 by 1080 chips that Canon is buying from someone....except a progressive version...

Well, rezfest in SF is the week after next. I guess I'll see the cam there.

Does anyone of you went to :

The AG-HVX200 arrives to debut in the US at RESFEST 2005. See the camera and actual footage shot with the camera projected on the big screen. DVCPRO HD, P2 and other technical concepts will also be covered. What is meant by intraframe recording? How does 4:2:2 Color sampling help picture quality? What's the story behind 1080i vs. 720P?
