So let me get this straight

The whole tech think I think has left the Mac world.. yes sure a few years ago they where on the ball, but now they are at least a generation behind. The bus is slower, macs just started using SATA, pcs are on SATA2, Graphics cards in macs are from 2 years ago.. etc. etc. etc.

They do look nice though.

But, i think its a personal pref. more than anything, i am pretty sure you can do the same thing on both platforms. I have been a pc guy for 25 years so the switch to mac a few weeks ago was a little retarded for me.. but if your just starting out go with what feels comfortable.

I think the biggest problem I had was being forced to go into a MAC store to buy stuff... 4 different stores, and they all where a buncha whackjobs in those places.

I think you're a hardcore PC guy. Why would you switch. I'm a hardcore Mac guy, you don't see me jumping from platform to platform. I kick butt on the Mac. The key for me is ease of use, tight intergration, less downtime and a nice production package overall.

The PC seems overly complex at times but some say that about the Mac too (which I find insane). But I do think PCs are more left brain versus Macs (Apple I should say) being more right and I think the operating systems reflect this. It would seem that this wouldn't be considering Windows was stolen from the MacOS who jacked it from Xerox (but that's not the point) but it's the way the interfaces are created I guess. A graphic interface for left brainers is still left brain and vice versa.

Ironically I think both are becoming one. Windows increasingly becomes more like Mac OS and vice versa, but as for the whole "tech think" leaving the Mac world. Come on PC Jarred, you're pulling my Mac chain on that one. Remember "E-machine". When a PC company stoops to basic stealing that's just bad. Remeber when Gateway tried to copy the flatscreen iMacs, but were actually using tube based screens that looked like flats. By the way whatever happened to those? Don't know but the iMacs are still here. :)

lol.. windows stole mac, but mac bailed on mac and stole the UNIX os.. so i guess we are even. tech think? not sure what that means... all i know is people are getting excited for dual core Macs that will probally be out a year after the PC's have been rocking them.

I'll give you Unix. That Unix shell just made sense but come now Jarred, you know Apple's going to rock it. IBM brought it with the 64 meg processor, but Apple switched to Pentium because (it's been said) that they're looking to break some speed barriers plus Intel already have things in place for 64meg G5 laptops. But you know you can count on Apple to pull some suprises J. Either way, for the video world it means hardcore speed all the way around. BTW, you know what Microsoft Xbox 360 is using for specs in it's developer's kit? Many were shocked. The exact quote is, "We purchased a number of Apple G5's because very specific hardware components of the G5 allow developers to emulate some of the technology behind future Xbox products and services," a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement. "This is an interim development tool that will be replaced with a more powerful and comprehensive solution later." At this point in time, Microsoft went Mac.

I dont know what the hell a 64meg CPU is.. but it sounds slow as hell. And the Xbox SDK was run on MAC's because the XBOX 360 uses cheap ass PowerPC chips.. they had to use 3 of them just to match a single pentium 4... it was a good emulation for testing. The last beta 360 developer kit moved back to an INTEL PC platform because the MAC's ran out of power.

Yes it means you can capture to tape, mini-dv tape.
Oh, and the reason the XBox 360 developer computers were macs, is because the Xbox 360 runs on a Power PC chip, yes folks, the X box 360 is a G4!

Yes, if you shoot on an HD100 or Sony FX1. :)

Sorry I meant 64 bit processor. (You know what I meant you PC guy). Don't you see what's about to happen? The Xbox is going to run on what will be the future Mac system. I can almost garuntee it. Either that or something close. Some consider it an unholy alliance but Apple and Microsoft are working closely under the covers (I know it sounds bad but you get my meaning) so something happening. Kind of like Matrix Revolutions being the testing ground for the Superman flight scenes F/X. (Yes both films are WB movies and you will be seeing Superman fly like Neo, so heads up).

ha ha.. whats even more ironic is that apple charges $3000 for a machine that the $300 XBOX runs circle's around.

but i digress.. i gotta stop flaming the poor mac's.. I know apple is a lifestyle to you guys, to PC people the box under the desk is just a machine. I dont think that will ever change.. point is we all use what we got to make the same thing... and in a few years Microsoft will just buy apple and we will all be in the same boat.

Now now, you know the same can be said about a few of the high priced PC work stations out there once you put all the parts in order. A basic Mac will cost you about $500 (Mini Mac). You PC guys love your Windows Machines too. I don't think neither of us will be switching to Linux Boxes (some tend to think these are the best of all) anytime soon.

I heard it was going to be some kind of "core" machine but with some kind of Apple tech inside. I really believe the future Apple tech will run the Xbox. But if the Xbox 360% is actually a converted Apple G4 with a high power graphics card I would crack up laughing.

I did some more reading on the 360, and it does use the IBM Power PC chips but I'm lead to believe these are Mac 64 bit ones they currently use in the G5s, because G5s were what were used in the developer's kits.

I´m delighted by your humbleness!
A toast, everybody!

jealous cowards try to control. rise above. we're gonna rise above. they distort what we say. rise above.

This CPUs used in the Xbox360 are PowerPC based, so yes they are similar to the G4 & G5 chips in that they use the same architecture. But, they are not the same chips.

And to say that the Xbox can run circles around any desktop computer (whether mac or windows) is kind of laughable to me. This is a great case of specs not giving the whole story (something we should all keep in mind as we debate the merits of cameras that haven't been released yet). Sure, on paper it looks incredible, and it will be for games. That's what it was designed to do.

But a gaming console is not a desktop editing machine.
At least not yet.

But the Ferrari will probably break down snooner than the Hyundai, its the classic tale of the Hair and tortoise.. hehe :)

Some guy at anandtech posted an article where game developers said that the Xbox360 and Playstation 3 were effectively "about 3 times faster" than the 733mhz Xbox. Why? It's impossible to write code for them.

The new "dual dual" G5s are going to be awesome, though, for Final Cut Pro. As for Macs vs. PCs thank god Macs are getting Intel processors soon so we can let the speed argument rest--and so I can run XSI and Half Life 2 on my dual boot Mac!
