So let me get this straight

Hey whats up guys, love the forum...quick question. Is there any way to record DVCPRO HD on to a tape?

Hee hee. Just kidding. No offense "G" just trying to get a cheap laugh.

Great question, rap! The answer is, of course, you cannot. Only to a p2 card. But those are the kinds of questions that make this forum great. Keep 'em coming! And don't be afraid to ask it again, just in case the answer changes!

;-)

Has there be a definitive answer form panasonic regarding recording to a Harddrive (f/w or usb) without the need for a HDD controller? In otherwords straight to a generic portable HDD? (oh and if I hear one more person say that F/W drives aren't fast enough I'm going to start digtitally biatch slapping people)

Last I had heard was that their "might" be a contoller built into the camera and that even the panasonic reps aren't sure any more. That was about 2 months ago. Any updates on that?

Basically, if it does, then I'll buy it. If not then I'll wait and see what else comes down the pipe and whether P2 cards come down enough. Since Panasonic is licensing there P2 technolgy that is (eventually) likely.
hmm.. Be nice to see a P2 card that you can fill with 4 of your own high speed SD cards. That would be MUCH cheaper...

Do a search on this here and you get a lot of yes/no/maybe's. ;)

Yep -- plug it in via firewire to an AJ-HD1200A deck and you can record to DVCPRO-HD tape...

(see, the answer changed already!)

So you CAN record DVCProHD on the HD100?
Well, sort of. If you put the HD100 on the ground, and set the HVX (with a P2 card in it) on top, then technically you'd be recording DVCProHD on the HD100.

I'm just not funny either.....
