So how much better is the C100 over the FS100?

great. thanks stephen, way to destroy any semblance of patience i could possibly retain for the next 36 hours that i have to wait to get to jersey to unbox my c100.

thank god non of my clocks have a second hand...

someday i'll repay you for this.... someday...

Don't get all worked up, Darren. The C100 is a great tool, but it's not perfect. It's lacking one or two things that I'd love to have.

But this is a very "fun" camera to shoot with. It just wants to go everywhere and shoot everything. I think you'll be pleased.

oh i was just poking fun. i've got plenty of preproduction to keep me occupied.

the past week of scraping through the rather limited reviews of this camera and making the decision to abandon the BMC were far more of an annoyance that finally knowing that the camera is on its way.

lack of slow mo isn't a deal breaker for my needs, i would love some, but realistically for all my cameras i've used slomo barely ever

im 100% positive i'll be pleased with the camera as is. Anything that comes out to add to it is just icing. (canon power zoom EF lenses, ENG win.)

What are you thinking for a run and gun lens? Something with OIS, AF and wide to mid-zoom? Or is that too much to ask? Only Canon lens I have is an old 50mm 1.8 EF.

Thanks!

We are using the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM with both our C100 and C300. Nice lens with a great picture. Little lighter than the 70-200 MM F2.8 with a bit more zoom. The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS US works well on the C100 with the EF-S zoom function enabled.

You would get slow mo if you convert 60i to 60p. I know it's an old way to do it, but still a way to get slow mo.
Here's a slow mo sample I did three years ago from 60i footage.

doesn't look too bad. though the main point about slomo is just why didn't they include any of it with this camera? they could easily have done 48p and the c300 would still be protected. IMHO the c300 and c100 should both have a boost in codec and framerate options, basically up the c100 to what the c300 has and up the c300 to 60p1080 and 100mbit/4:2:2 ALL-I

could be a hardware limitation, but smells more like market protection and separation tactics

Yeah, it's just very close to SD resolution when you do that. I just tried it myself actually, a few days ago. It's a huge pain in the ass to do and you get poor resolution on top of that.

i wasn't necessarily suggesting they stay with that. i've no idea their reasons for choosing that variant of 264, but if they could have gone pure bred 264 for 48p without a hit in IQ...
It's all about money, sad to say. At one point Canon led us to believe 5D Mark III wasn't capable of outputting clean/recordable HDMI. Now they say their next firmware update will provide it. Huh? How can you explain it other than they must be losing business to Nikon and Sony? I am excited about this firmware coming, but at the same time, it is just upsetting to think about what Canon is doing. The same thing goes to video resolution. Why is 1DX's video resolution better than 5D Mark III? All about money.

Good to know. With the 17-mm is the camera comfortable to hand hold?

anyone tried the 18-200 IS for extreme versatility?

John Brawley's prototype Blackmagic Camera work was done with a Canon 15-85m and it gave a very cinematic look. It's IS is great. it's limited iris at high end means it is primarily an outdoor lens but I have loved it for walk around in bright light.

But my favorite walk around lens for sharp results is the new Canon 24mm f2.8 IS. It is L level sharp, light, and the IS is really great for handheld video. Reviews say the 28mm f2.8 IS is even better, but I am eagerly waiting for the 35mm F2.0.

Does anyone know what the crop factors are on both cameras? Is a 50mm still a 50mm on these cams?

Finally, the new 24-70mm F4 hybrid IS lens should have great IS for video, perhaps the best for handheld work, based on the same hybrid IS system in the 100mm IS macro.

A 50mm is a 50mm not matter what camera it's on/sensor size it's covering. Focal length doesn't change.

On a Super 35mm camera (like the C100), it's going to be the equivalent of an 80mm on a Full Frame stills camera (like the 5d) in terms of field of view

field of view is what changes per camera, not the focal length itself
