So Avid is starting to see the light!

Yeah. This took me by surprise. One of the main things holding me back from getting back into Pro Tools was the thought of having to buy an Mbox or some other kind of compatible interface.

The idea of using Pro Tools 9 with my RME Fireface is appealing.

It comes with "O'h My God" as standard? ;~)
I think you meant OMG it comes with OMF as standard...

I was seriously taken aback when I saw Avid's Media Composer 4. I bucked a lot of things I'd heard about Avid. After a 30 day trial, and talking to a number of people, I decided to buy it. Then I got wind of MC5. And I waited. Glad I did. Avid isn't a large company, but they are well established, and have a user base that relies on things being nearly the same release to release. MC5 is a nice departure in a lot of ways while still being familiar. But it was clear to me even a year ago that Avid as a company was changing. Quickly.

It's good to see that they have opened up to the .MOV structure in MC (including reading ProRes) and are opening up ProTools. I think they are doing things exactly the right way. Slowly changing the ship to be as open as they can without alienating long time users...

Good for them, and I wish they great success!

(Now get me a control surface for grading!)

Well, it's about time. I say they jump leaped 10 years ahead just to be at similar levels as other programs. If they had done this many eons ago, they would have taken about 95% of the world market by now!

Current leadership hasn't been there that long... I give him credit. He's getting it done.

Management was a mess back then. After seeing PT8's face lift and other changes to their lineups, announcements, and inside chops at HQ, something was changing for good.

he he, yeah, I meand OMF not OMG, typing habits I suppose!

It's gonna be nice having all the new features at affordable prices!
