What do you sugest are the proper settings in FCP for capturing 24p Advanced the correct way?
is this what your are talking about?
Under Audio/Video Settings:
SUMMARY TAG:
Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
"Use this preset when editing with DV NTSC with audio set to 48KHz (16bit for DV)."
Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
"Use this preset when capturing NTSC material for DV FireWire input and output using DV FireWire".
Device Control Preset: FireWire NTSC
instead of using:
Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48kHz - 23.98
"Use this preset when editing with DV NTSC 23.98 materials with audio set to 48KHz (16bit for DV)."
Capture Preset: DV NTSC kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal
"Use this preset when capturing 24fps NTSC material recorded in Advanced Pulldown (2:3:3:2) mode with DV FireWire input and output using DV FireWire".
Where is the "check box" you mentioned for removing the 2:3:3:2 pulldown from the signal in the tape?
What settings do you suggest to use when capturing 24p Advance footage intended to be used for broadcast? Should the footage be treated as a 29.97 video and edit it on a 29.97 timeline and export it as a 29.97 video although shot in F6?
No Aidan, it isn't park city, it's at Stoneham, Qc, Canada. The kicker is not that big it's about 6 feet high and the landing is about 30 feet away from the kicker!
Ronik already stated he captured at 23.98(PullDown Removal).. this setting in FCP assumes an initial source of 60i, and removes the mixed BC frame.
I don't why anyone would capture purely at just 23.98.. I don't know of any DV camera that records 24 discrete frames..
I think people have confused his chroma problem with some sort of capture/interlacing error.
This whole thread is filled with a slight bits of mis-information it seems.
But I now see what you were talking about Shadow, but I don't think that is the case here at all.
Ronik, your second pict is ugly because reds really seem to bring out the crummy 4:1:1 chroma sampling in DV. Applying a Chroma Blur filter will help smooth it out.
Loki, I have to admit at the end the thread was a bite re-dundant, but I never said he had to capture purely at 23.98, I wanted him to read that post from Noah Kadner for a better understanding of the process. That all.
