Smart Leveling

A couple of relatively high precision piezoelectric gyroscopes built into the camera which could provide on screen leveling information. Or maybe as an external USB option even, as long as they could be mounted someplace which should be level.

An integrated option which would be nice to enable "autolevel" so that the image will be manipulated using the overscan values to keep the image perfectly level. You'll lose quality because of the transformation but if you're already filming at 2k, this could be easily acceptable. If you're filming at 2k with a cropped frame you'll be able to "auto level" a full 360 degrees of roll.

Ideally I would only use it to ensure my tripod head was perfectly level but especially when hand holding it would be a whole new world to be able to keep the footage perfectly level. I could also see this possibly being of interest to steadicam operators (who already are able to do this on their own) but might want that extra "extreme precision".

If you could encode the pitch and yaw into a data channel in the red codec, this might also get the attention of some people in the FX industry who might want to have that data available with the footage. It would only add at most 32 bytes of data to each frame.

Speaking of which, it would be lovely if the RED OS allowed external devices to save data to extra data channels in the RED codec, maybe even frame independent. For instance I know somebody right now who is setting up an intergrated camera tracking system built off of a board of accellerometers. They're recording the data onto an audio channel, but if they could easily access the API of the red and save it straight into an extensable data channel that would be even more convenient.
