SmallHD Monitors Kick Butt!

I just got my Canon 5D MII earlier this week, and it is truly remarkable.
I had some editing problems with it in my 8 Core MacPro and Final Cut Pro, but I think
I worked out the kinks.
But what I'm writing about is the SmallHD monitor. It absolutely kicks butt !!!
I had to sell my Marshall monitor earlier this year, and I hated to do it. I thought it was great. But, I've gotta say, the SmallHD is just awesome ( and I hate to you use that word)
I got the full production pack for $949.00, and it is worth every penny. Crystal clear, and
extremely well built. If any of you have been considering it, I highly recommend it.
The sales staff, I believe I talked to Clint, was very helpful and friendly.

Looks good. Is that a regular sized HDMI "in" connection for that monitor? Where did you get your regular HDMI to mini HDMI cable that the 5DII requires? Do they sell those as well?

Any SmallHD monitors with an equally smaller budget to get started?

No, it is a mini HDMI connector. I got one at Radio Shack. The monitor comes with a full sized HDMI cable. You can get adapters for the end, but I was in a hurry so I went to Radio Shack and bought a whole new cable. But I also bought an HDMI in-line couple so I could use both cables together if I need more length.

I only saw the DP1 which is a 9" full 720HD monitor. You can get the monitor by itself for $799.00. Here is the link: http://smallhd.com/

Very slick.

Does the 5D camera output have any other issues to overcome in terms of real time playback or scale to the screen?

Another question is can the 5D be adapted to monitor on a laptop?

I read that some of the Canons can be controlled remotely from a computer workstation. True or false?

I have had the DP-1 since June. It is great. I have it on my Glidecam X-10 (5DMK2) and on my EZ EFX Jib (Sony EX3). It really enhances my ability to use those rigs with ease and accuracy.

Sharp enough to focus with? The SmallHD is a full 720...does the 480 destroy focusing on a 7" monitor?

Thanks. Once you start recording on the 5DII and it switches to 480, how much of the screen does it fill? Also, is 480 looking pretty sharp while recording to focus with while recording?

Playing back recorded material is in 1080i, correct? Does that fill the whole screen?

Anybody try this one? http://www.coollcd.com/619ah-7-inch-tftlcd-vga-monitor-no-touchscreen-hdmi-new_p634.html

High Resolution: 800*480 RGB(800*480*3=1,152,000pixels)

We went through the whole Lilliput phase when 35mm adapters cropped up. From my experience they are a waste of money and time. The low resolution, poor colors and contrast, and the un-elegant solutions for power are a PITA. I would save your money and get something deigned for professional use.

Yeah well you spend your dough how you want but the Lilliput is sharp with an HDMI input, I can pull focus and the color is splendid for $180. I've had every monitor you've owned, plus built my own. They all use the same screen and controllers, you can even follow there development thread over at hv20.com. As far as power you can use the Ikan battery plate with whatever brand of battery you'd like. These are nothing like the old Ikans with the playstation converters to get descent composite picture.

Ok, I don't see the need for an attitude. I offered my opinion for consideration.

If it works for you fine.
