Im looking for a small mic to capture scratch audio on the C100 MKi, I need to use this on my Helix with a small foot print of weight. Any suggestions? I tried plugging a lab mic in there but didnt work, I'm assuming it needs to be self powered.

why not just use the shotgun that comes with it. it won't add that much more weight to it? you can also look at the rode video mic go its small and weighs nothing

Thanks guys, I have the rode video mic. But was considering another C100 MKI for the Helix, and needed the smallest mic possible. But I ended up getting the MKII with the built in mic and now don't need a small mic. Its impossible to balance the C100 with the top handle and a shot gun mic on the Helix.

Oh whoa! That looks like a great solution! I just got a c100 mkii primarily because of the internal mic. But I'll get one of these for my mki....... thanks for the great tip!

I don't have my C100 anymore, but I got this for my Scarlet as a scratch mic: https://www.amazon.com/Olympus-145037-ME-51S-Stereo-Microphone/dp/B000BTAH62

No battery required, weighs almost nothing and you can't beat the price...

Thanks for the recommendation Fahnon! I'll pick one up for my C100 mkI for use on a Helix Jr too. I've got the Rode VideoMicro which in theory would work great, but unfortunately Canon doesn't provide power through the stereo jack like most other cameras do. I've been looking at various battery solutions to power it but they all become so bulky it's not worth it just for scratch audio - so this looks great, thanks!

Update: maybe spoke too soon. The Olympus looks to be powered via the stereo jack as well? Is there an optional battery input?
