FS7: Small lense solution for FS7

I love using my Nikon's via a Metabones Speedbooster. I get the same FOV from the FS7 that I get from my D800 so my 17-35 is a sweet wide angle that's a nice 2.8. I also have the 24-70 for general use and my goto interview lens is my Nikon 70-200. All 2.8.
I also love my $600 Sony 18-105 power zoom which has an effective FOV of 25-147. A stop slower at f4 but the camera more than makes up for the one stop.

Wait...is that right? For the FS7 multiply mm x .71? Thought it was 1.4.
Not sure how you can say that a lens designed for full sensor as a Canon 17-24 would yield an effective FOV of 13mm on the back end. How does a lens get wider without a horrible vignette? I don't understand the physics that allow a wider field of view to be offered than the lens has without either stretching or the vignetting I mentioned.
Love to be smartened up on that topic.

This ist probably just some misunderstandings. As you probably know (from your FF lenses for the D800 used with MB on the FS7) the smaller Super35 sensor generates a mathematically smaller view as a FF sensor. So, in the end I need a 12/13mm lense (without MB) to get with ~90° a similar FoV I would get with a 18mm on my A7S.

Thanks for the confirmation, that Metabones work fine with Nikon lenses on FS7.

BTW - I just talked today with Novoflex and they pointed out, that it is very unlikely, there ever would be an active adapter for Nikon lenses for Sony cameras. Most Nikon lenses have mechanical iris, so some kind of motor to move the ring would be needed as well as some API/"translating" the signal from the Sony cam to move the motor...

I have the rokinon 12mm t2.2 cine it's a great lens better than most UWA I had before manual focus manual fast aperture very sharp low distortion and native E-mount also it costs less than 400.

allenfacemire and I have some equipment in common in that I also have a FS7, SELP18105, MB Ultra, Nikon lenses, and a D800. Even if I could find a good one cheap the Nikon 17-35 is heavy. So, have any of you fine folk tried the Tokina 17-35/f4 FX on the FS7 with a MB Ultra? I know about the 11-16 and new 11-20 but those are DX and I want FX glass so I can use it properly on my D800 and my D700 if I keep that.

Thanks,
Robert

I just received my PL adapter and am looking forward to using my PL zeiss prime lenses. they are small and lightweight, and originally designed for a movie camera. They are much lighter than the rokinon lenses. They should be much easier to balance on my shoulder.

I still tend to the new Tokina 11-20mm on Novoflex Nikon-Adpater. Its a DX lense und will cost around 600-700 €/$:

Newer modell: http://www.tokinalens.com/tokina/products/atxpro/atx116prodxii/

Did not buy it yet, since my FS7 did not arrive.

For the doubled price I would get this one:
http://www.tokinacinema.com/11-16mmT3.html

It would be to expensive, for my taste, but I better ask, before I make a fatal mistake.
Sorry for this naive question, but what is the real advantage on the FS7 of the Tokina Cinema lense over the DX pro lenses? Of course, it has much complexer and more glass elements - but will I notice it for my non cinematographic needs? Its still no IS+AF and probably similar aperture adjusting width as my Novoflex.com adapter with the DX lenses. Anything more / better?

It has Canon EF or Micro Four Thirds mount, so I would have to look for an apropriate adapter.

The advantages of the cine are the gears and zoom bar. The optics are the same. Get the mount that will match your other lenses. Probably EF. It's a DX lens so it won't work with a speed booster.

My Nikon 17-55 was even sharper than the 17-35 but its DX, so no speed booster. great lens if you go Nikon though. I've gone Canon and like the 24-70 tamron. very sharp.

So I received the Tokina 17-35/f4 FX and it is pretty soft at the edges as the tests show. My quick test was on my D800. If you move off 17mm and stop down a bit it is of course better but still perhaps not what I would be happy with long term . Build quality is very nice for the price.

So, did someone say they have the Zeiss 12MM Touit? E mount or other APSC version? I may break my FX rule again for this one. FOV is 18mm in full frame terms.

Thanks,
Robert

Anybody shoot with the Zeiss 12MM Touit?

Take it EZ,

Once again back to the reason for a FS7: I am very happy since years with my EX1R because of the great 3CMOS colors of fireworks (I never saw any other cam other than the XDCAM 3CMOS showing that intense but realistic colors of fireworks, its just the same as with my eyes. I am a pyrotechnician and know, how colors have to look. Its not just "red", there are many different shades and totally different tints for eg. strontium or calcium mixtures). But since years I am hating the lense of the EX1R, its simply not wide enough. With the Sony WA converter 0.8x VCL0877 its better for many situations, but its still often not wide enough. I never succeeded with 0.6x adapters from 16x9 or Century. In the end all that solutions have too much bending at the bottom or are unsharp at the edges. Furthermore I want to offer UltraHD/4K in some cases.

At the moment I would "try" the FS7 with Tokina 11-16mm with a nikon adpater.

So, I could test the brand new Tokina 11-20mm DX with the FS7. The situation was not good, I was more engaged with the correct FS7 settings, it was dark, windy and raining.

* edited, I will check more in a calm situation before giving my opinion here *
