Small HD vs Marshall hdmi

I'm debating The Marshall vlcd70 hdmi monitor and the small HD. The small HD has higher res and is larger while the Marshall has false color (which I hear is great for exposure)

Any thoughs?

Also how do you go about proprly exposing ( Like tech tips not opinons on what proper exposure is. I use manual lenses and am used to zebras and waveforms)

Small HD vs Marshall hdmi

Yeah I used both of them, Small HD is nice but not great for critical focus or exposure. I used mainly to frame up, I'd go for the Marshall, just.

They both have their strengths.

Marshall is infinitely better for exposure because of false color...

SmallHD is cool because of the higher res, and larger image.

As far as exposure, I usually light to eye, and then roll two seconds and look at the histogram.

Definitely learn to read the histogram to get an idea of where your exposure sits. Also, it seems like a still histogram is rather different than a video histogram, so that's why I evaluate from a 2 second clip.

It's sometimes confusing to get perfect exposure with these HDSLR cams...:badputer: Hopefully we will see some innovation in this field in the next year (be it new firmware, magic lantern mods, or new cameras!)

If you are using the camera's onboard LCD you can also set your screen brightness to be a fixed level, and then either at the midpoint or one under seems to approximate most Apple LCDs when calibrated.

Doesn't the DP6 have false color now with the newer v1.2 frimware? I'm debating between those two monitors also. I like the multiple inputs of the DP6 but really think the best benefit would come from what the monitor offers for focus and exposure tools.

Yes it has false color now. The small hd blows the Marshall away in every way hands down. Calibrate it and it's great. The preset calibration is way to contrasty but can be easily dialed down.

Tabacula, how in the world is the small hd not better for focus and exposure than the Marshall?!!! It's a no contest...

The Focus Assist on the DP-6 is crazy good. As for False Color, it has it, and it's been seriously improved with a new firmware that's coming out very shortly, much easier to use. That and their customer service is second to none.
