Small HD DP6 vs. Lilliput

I'm actually surprised how small the DP6 looks, it's must about double the screen length of the 550D-screen. Is it really worth the big money, which is more than a 550D itself? What about the Lilliput?

small dp6 is light years ahead in quality. go on the website and see what it offers. its made for film rigs. the lilliput is like a car monitor that filmmakers use for a cheap alternative. Its fine for focusing from what others have said.

The dp6 blows the lilliput outta the water, but the costs are different. Tho after shooting with each, I have to say I'm not sold on either of them.

So far the only monitors (7" and under) that have the needed functionality AND that I can really trust for color accuracy are the marshall 5" and 7". Small HD has more versatility in some ways... but it's just not as color accurate, weak viewing angle, etc. There's room for preference debate here, but that's my take.

I ended up buying the DP6, and also own a DP1X from smallHD. I've been extremely happy with each. The Marshals are pretty nice as well, but after demoing the DP6 for a week before I bought it, I was absolutely sold. And pertaining to viewing angle, it's 170 degrees, how is that weak?!? Mine works great at different angles. (The DP1X, no, not so much though).

you do not need a DP6 for a 550D, since neither the composite or HDMI are HD.
If you need it for just framing and focusing get a liliput (and set it in DVI mode) and keep the money for other accessories.

If I recall correctly, it is a form of HD UNTIL you start recording, then it switches to 480p during the record (only the 7D does not do this, which I know, because I own). So for focus, but probably not focus pulls, the DP6 will provide more resolution before you start recording.

The other nice thing about the DP6 is that they've added in some autoscaling operations for DSLR users. When the camera switches, you can setup the autoscaling to still fill the whole screen. Really nice. Here is a video of how it works:

(check the scale and custom scale videos)

another thing to consider ...for me at least is i dont plan on using 7d for the rest of my life...i plan to change cameras alot i'm sure but i dont wanna be changing accessories, so i try to buy good once. The t2i may not output HD while recording but other cameras do. Hence i got myself a Manhattanlcd 7 inch mointor.

To be more clear, it was the DP1 who's viewing angle seemed really poor.

The Marshall's I was talking about are the 7" V-LCD70XP & the 5" V-LCD50-HDMI

There's a newer lilliput that works much better in sunlight than the original. It has component ins and Hdmi. For 200.00 it's hard to beat. But as the others state, the colors are no where near as accurate as the marshalls. But for a t2i, it's all you need.

Yes, the DP1X I have is less contrasty and much less viewing angle. That said, the DP6 is a HUGE upgrade in visual acuity. Which of course is the reason I bought the DP6 and use it now and not the DP1X :)
