small handheld camera that will work with the HVX-200?

I've been shooting a indie music doc for the last couple years. We want to send a camera out with a member of one of the band members to get some footage... this guy doesn't shoot. I'm looking for a small consumer camera (preferably AVCHD Panny) that he can use.

Hopefully I can find a progressive scan camera that shoots at 24p or at least I need to eventually get to 24p. 720P is fine.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Canon VIXIA HFS100

Seems to have the best image quality. Does 24p over 1080i so you gotta reverse telecine, but I don't think any small AVCHD cams do native yet.

The older models HF10 and HF11 are also pretty good if you want something cheaper.

I've been told the 24p modes on the consumer Panny cams aren't great.

Sorry to reboot this thread, but are any of Panny's consumer line decent as a B cam? I have been looking at the 300s (TM and HS) handhelds as they both do 24p and shoot decent size stills. Perfect for a backup to our 200s. Especially for the guy that has just been shooting off the cuff stills, this camera looks intriguing.

I guess I have never thought to look what we give up going "back" to the consumer line:) Thought it was more the manual control aspect. Is it necessary to step up to the 150 for a reasonable match to the workflow of the P2 cams? Also, is there a pretty ugly difference between the footage of these newer HD consumer cams and our HVXs, HPXs, DVXs, etc?

Seems to me they should be getting better, as we are on the 3rd or 4th generations of these $1000-$1200 cameras!

Also, is there a significant difference between the Canons and Pannys? Is there a good site for the consumer grade camcorders that any of you would suggest? We have a couple of projects coming up that are in the woods. I would much rather have a couple of these cams out then with the 200s. Seems less a chance of losing a lot of money, especially in the elements.

Thanks for the info.

Consumer Reports tests the consumer camcorders every year and consistently
rates the HV20=30-40 series higher in image quality than anything else. Despite the fact that they shoot HDV on DV tape and many of the others shoot in cards or HD. Which is why I bought one to supplement my HVX when I dont want to haul a large camera.
