General SLR Vs Traditional.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me. Currently I'm selling my 7D to go back to a more traditional camera and was wondering if anyone missed the simplicity? The fact you could zoom etc etc.

I zoom with a old Nikon vintage lens that keeps pretty accurate focus across the zoom (found this out by accident- didn't know such a concept existed, but I can apparently zoom without having to refocus at all). Works a treat.
Its a different workflow with the DSLR, that's for sure, but I really think I prefer it. I still have the big cam for when I need to look "more professional". Something about showing up with a little still shooter doesn't make people take you seriously sometimes. :)

I love my 7d, and frankly I wouldn't willingly go back to shooting hdv (sony fx7,canon xha1). sure it takes more prep and maybe better planning to cover the same stuff,(weddings,events,ect..) but the images speak for themselves. at the end of the day all anyone will judge you on is your work, and my 7d allows me to do better work.

Haha I know what you mean on the looking pro bit, its just I've had my 7d since April now and I do miss being able to have a good zoom without having to worry about refocusing. I used to shoot on a HVX200 before, and I'm thinking of going back as I just purchased a 60d in replace of my 7d which i'll use as a B-cam if i can get hold of a hvx or hmc for cheap)

I used to have a 7D, but after coming from using a Foveon sensor, I was really unhappy with the stills IQ. On top of it, I bought a 24-70mm f/2.8 L and wasn't happy with the results - soft at the wide, not wide enough, sometimes problems getting a proper exposure using certain Nikon lenses and not so easy focusing for stills with the VF. There are a lot of inherent problems with what I wanted from the camera, but with a little work I could have managed - could have gotten a crop lens zoom, forget to shoot stills with Nikon lenses, better expose when shooting stills and learn more about post processing for stills. In the end it was too much for me. A 5D would have worked better for me.

I would never give up shooting HPX500 for dslr. I really see our 5Dll and 60D as b-cams for specialty shots where shallow DOF, ultrawide or macrO shots are needed. It will be a while before I change completely. Let panasonic come out with an ENG with an APS-C sensor and a matched parafocal lens that is 14-55 F2 :)
