Slow record start-up

Not sure if this has ever been stated, but I just recently noticed this as a problem. When I stop recording for about a minute, my tape rewinds back 5 seconds. Is there a function that I can change so that it doesn't do this?

It gets annoying on set when the director calls "camera ready?" and I have to wait 6 seconds before "speed" and everyone sort of looks at me like I haven't pushed record.

Heres my workflow.

Run and record cam bars for first 20 seconds of tape. As soon as you stop recording hit end search.

Take 1 - Press record - it will start straight away. At cut dont stop record - switch to cam bars for 5 seconds>stop recording>hit end search.

Lol....

There is a definate build time when dealing with HDV.... Not sure if it just the tape heads lagging to engage or the build up of GOP's and the weakness of HDV...

I have gotten in to the habit of making certain that the time code is rolling before 'action'....

I think it's something inherent with tape based recording. Leave the camera untouched and it'll go into standby mode and it'll take the tape head sometime to get going again.
