Slow Motion Trouble - Please Help

I'm trying to do some 60i to 24p slow motion, following the advice of what I've read on this forum and from what I remember in the DVX book (my copy is in Colorado and I'm in California right now), but I can't seem to get it to work.

Can someone give me the step-by-step for a DVX100B and FCP 5? It would be greatly appreciated!

What I've tried so far:
1. Shoot at 60i with a shutter of 1/120
2. Capture as basic DV NTSC - 29.97 fps, interlaced
3. Drag this footage into a 23.98 timeline
4. Bring up speed settings for this clip, and change to 40% with the frame blending unchecked (though I've also tried it with the button checked to no avail).

The resulting footage looks choppy and will sometimes repeat or skip frames. I've tried this with 30p footage, slowing it to 80%, and have had similar results, though not as bad as the 60i.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

i guess i should have included that in my list, but yes: i did render it before playing it back.

is there anything else i'm doing wrong?

thanks.

a trick a buddy of mine told me (i never tried it), shoot it in 24p.... then render it twice interlaced, one version odd and the other version even. then put the two clips on a time link, move one clip up a frame ahead or behind the other clip on the timeline and it should look good. SHOULD lol

Thanks Dan,

I tested some footage using Alex Mitchell's tutorial and it worked beautifully. It takes quite a bit of time in Compressor, but I think it's well worth the wait: The motion is super clean and smooth.

I'm hoping to shoot a music video in the next week or two where I'd like to use some SloMo, so this helps tremendously.

Thanks so much!

I didnt know anybodye else knew about this. It makes the slow motion so smooth and you can really mess around with each frame too, it just takes a long time
