Slow-Motion and Card Speed Errors

I have my GH1 hacked to the Ptool's C settings, and I tried to film a black hawk helicopter flying over a forest in 720p60, and I had a few card speed errors come up. Is there a way to have reliable 720p60 performance, while still maintaining the 44 Mbps 1080p24 recording option? Can you have a lower bitrate set for 720p60 MJPEG, for example?

Is there a noticeable decrease in visual quality between your settings and the Ptool's C settings? I only ask because the average bitrate of 24 Mbps seems a little low (to me, but what do I know?).

I just want to make sure, because I am currently using the 1080p24 mode in professional productions that demand high quality, and I'd like to use the 720p60 for slow-mo in the same contexts.

Can these settings be used with the 24p patch? I prefer 24p over the 60i wrapper to a great extent. I do not want to have to remove the pulldown.

Also, a general question, does the camera have a 60 fps MJPEG mode? Would it make sense to hack that one specifically for slowmo, and leave AVCHD at Ptool "C" settings? I have only triggered an error in the "C" settings when I intentionally triggered it.

The 40Mbps AVCHD patch has a maximum bitrate of 44Mbps. The AVCHD codec will only use as much bitrate as it needs. The average bitrate you'll see is highly dependent on scene complexity, motion, and amount of lighting.

The Native 24p patch is not reliable and can produce corrupted video files, even when they appear to play back correctly.

The MJPEG encoder records properly only at 30fps.

I don't doubt your statement; clearly you're better versed in the subject than I, but I'm curious what the corruption in the file would be if playback appears normal? Is it a I- versus p-frame error that's visually imperceptible? And what effect would this corruption have on post production of the video?

I tried ipowells settings after getting annoyed with all the peeps stating +70mbs avchd is totally fine with their "working" patches, in my book C-settings is the maximum you can go currently with Sandisk/Pana Gold C10. But yes, imo there is a notible diefference with the above suggested patch and the C-settings, to me the superb quaility is the reason for using GH1 in the first place... i'd just pick up an additional consumer camcorder that does 60p/i in your case.

Thanks for the information. I think I'll continue to use the C settings and test exactly how reliable 720p60 is with the C bitrate.

Can the MJPEG 720pXfps patch be used without modifying the MJPEG bitrate to create acceptable-resolution high-framerate recording?
