Slow motion: A1 vs HVX200

In the coming month, I will be buying my first prosumer camera. I will be shooting weddings and other events along with a lot of action sports because would one day love to make ski and bike films/documentaries.

So what I'm trying to say, slow motion is going to play a huge factor in what camera I choose.

Considering the fact that you lose some resolution when deinterlacing 60i to 60p and putting all workflow issues aside, how does the A1's slow motion campare to that of the HVX's slow motion capabilities?

I'm wondering if they end up being about even because of the A1's sharper image before deinterlacing.

Thank you very much.

If you want the best slow motion, then go for the hvx200. The xh a1 is not a varicam. 60i slowed down is decent, but as you said, loss in resolution, and not equivalent to 60p.

You can pull off beautiful slomo with the A1 and the HV20/30 using post processing and some freeware but the HVX200 destroys in this field. Its slow mo is perfect. The only slow mo, I have seen the same or better is from the RED ONE. -Matt

The A1 can only simulate two slow-mo frame rates, 30p and 60p. The HVX can do 26, 30, 32, 36, 40, and 48fps too. Sometimes 60 is just too slow, I really like the look of 36 for many things. And if you use the frame rate hack, you can get 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60 frames per second on an HVX200.

Yep, if you are sold on needing slow mo as a huge decision factor, the HVX is the only way to go. I would reccomend the HVX200a or the Hpx170.

I am also thinking about the HMC 150. From most people i've talked to and from what I've observed from other ski/bike videos, shooting at 60p and slowing it down is about the only speed of slow motion they use. So I don't know how useful other frame rates will be to me. The HMC 150 could be all I need. I could care less about workflow if it's gonna save me a couple thousand dollars or more.

Sorry, I know this is getting a bit off topic, but what's your take on this?
