Slow-mo test: dvx/sgpro rev.2

Hey dudes. I just got after effects and wanted to try to get some decent slo motion out of the dvx and sgpro.
I havent changed batteries in the adapter for a while now so the image is flickering. Being my first try with after effects
I kinda screwed up the compression as well, but it will work to view how the slo-mo works. Shot interlaced 50i, 1/250 shutter, with 55mm lens.

Added a new clip.

yeh it is pretty dark and yeah it is a bit flickery but the motion is very smooth. music is godspeed you black emporer if i'm not mistaken

How much it was?: 455 british pounds including rails and lens mount.
Where it was?: In my home(haha, im so funny). www.sgpro.co.uk.

It shot it in the evening, and shutter at 1/250 doesnt help :)
And yes, the song is from Godspeed! You black emperor, and it's called "East Hastings".

thanks for comments, cheers!

the adapter itself loose about one stop of light, I'm not sure how you calculate the total loss dpending on what lens you use and so on.

that slow mo sucked. and so did the video and so do all your videos and so does your adapter.

just kidding
you are the reason why im saving for a sgpro. the water was real smooooth

Yea, were you been?
I almost starved, died of suffocation and dehydration
I hate you now too
But mine comes Oct-31st

Hahaha. I have been sleeping! :)
The Como: The sgpro doewn't come with a 35mm lens, you'll have to buy one, luckily they are pretty cheap if you get one used from e-bay and such. Or if you happend to bump into one of your friends parents who catches your hobby and tells you they have a box full of 35mm lenses which you can have for free since they never use it, I'm collecting soon :)
Have lately been watching too much jack bauer and hiding from spiders, those bastard gets pretty big sometimes, i hate them.. Like, one second Jack bauer is killing some old imigrant lady because she walked on red light, and then the other second some whore-spider crosses your foot causing you to do a 63% completed backflip over your sofa and landing on your head. Why it's hidious face!?

Just found out that the flickering wasnt because of the batteries in the adapter. Actually, the adapter can shoot at shutter speeds up to 1/1000 and conform to 25p without flickering. The flickering happened because i flipped the footage before comforming to 25p slo-mo in after effetcs. So always conform to 25p slo-mo in after effects first, and then flip the footage. I will post one more clip from todays more succesful testings.

Spiders ARE nasty...

One thing I want to know is:

Did you capture in premiere? (+ do you capture with the DVX?)
Then did you export it as pure avi then import it into After Effects to do the slow mo?

Just wonderin...

Hello tommetass.

I usually capture in premiere, but now I used a small application called "DVIO" to capture as dv-avi, and then I imported that file directly into after effects where I conformerd the footage to 25p, then I exported from after effects and imported the comformed fottage into premiere where I then flipped the image and color corrected.

Now I use my dvx capture. It's a no-no, but I managed to spill 0.5 liter of beer over my little mini-dv camera which i used as a deck. No need to say, it doesnt work anymore :)

- cheers!

Here's a clip I put together from today. No interesting objects around me, so I
found a golfball which I played with like I was a kid from a third world country.
Since this was during breakfast, I was also sporting my "molesting uncle" -slippers and socks,
which is quite a stylish combo. Shot with 55mm lens, shutter speeds at 1/120 and 1/250, CC with magic bullet.

Nice.. thank you:)
Sorry if I ask to much:S
But can't you just flip the image in after effects and do CC there?

I'm gonna check out DVIO, looks simple:P
