Slider+ XL now available from Edelkrone

Thanks for the in depth response Dusty. I think a slider that wont lock of solid is useless in an event setting where you want some locked down panning shots and don't want to remove the slider. The shouldn't use the belt to lock, that should use a lock that pushes against the rails like the flt or konova.

I'm thinking of drilling a hole that pins top sliding plate to base. That way it firmly locks motion.

That's one of my inventions on the original Igus... let me see if I can dig up the pics for ya.

Hey kids.

Little update on the Slider+. Was "trying" to use it today on a shoot. After about 5 minutes I wanted to kick the thing down the street. It's really only good for a camera weight of like 5 pounds or less. You want a slider, look elsewhere like the Konova or something.

yikes, can you do a review and put it on youtube? might help people that wanna buy it. BTW, I don't think the konova is even that good. Konova flexes a lot.

Like I said, it's fine for a light camera like a Gh2 and maybe canon 5d, barebones and unrigged. But anything over that and it's just not worth it. THe konova will flex, unless you support it. I use to small light stands and just bump them up to the ends to support heavier weight. Something like the konova is far more secure than the slider+, especially if moving around. You want something with a tight and secure brake. THe Slider+ has a horrible brake and even then there is movement. Hard to lock and do a pan move.

I'm just saying for the money against performance, I'm glad I had my konova packed in the truck today along with my floor dolly.

For a small, 2ft or so slider, I should have just bought the Kessler compact. I had a Kessler cineslider and it was awesome!

What do I always say? "Buy cheap, buy twice". Bitten again....

Yeah, I'm thinking of selling the Konova for a kessler slider. I have Konova 3 feet version and I just realize I really don't need 3 feet.

I have been using the slider for the past 4 days shooting in the jungle in Costa rica. Has worked great! The brake as of right now does work for leveling but it will slip when I put the slider on my shoulder and hike. It is set up with a manfrotto 701 head on manfrotto 536 sticks. Using on the af100 with a rode ntg3 with jammer and with Nikon lenses ranging from 11-16 tokina to 70-200 3.5 nikon. So I think it has a lot to do with the sticks being used and how you place the legs under the slider. I did learn the ball bearing are just regular steel and they rust quickly. I will be emailing ekelkrone about this and I did get the protection so they have the choice of keep sending me bearings or send me a set of stainless. This is a serious oversight in my opinion because the fact that the majority of shooters in the world will encounter high humidity or rain at one point, support gear should not rust. Loving the size and it is by far the smoothest slider I personally have used.

OK, if we eliminate the backpack requirement, where do we go with slider length?

Most of the product profiles I see features DSLRs,

I have a 7-8 pound cam (worst case, camera, plus light, plus monitor, plus two XLR plugged in cables).

At what point do we start defying gravity?

And is the end game a floor slider with rollers at the end of the tripod legs where I suppose the only issue is having a flat surface but again you can I suppose have little legs and some leveling screws.

I was intrigued by the curved track system offered by TheCineCity but reached the conclusion too much setup.

I might have to frame this....
Do you have a different point of view when it comes to rusty support gear. Minus some corrosion on my manfrotto gear from literally being in the ocean up in Alaska. My shoulder rig has been in many of rain storms and salt spay situations with out any rust. And I'm not even using high end stuff, that jag35 gear! My 5 year old libec ls55 also has zero rust or corrosion.

Nope. I've just never seen anyone have to say it before. Never thought a manufacturer would make such a dumb mistake as to use parts that will rust. Especially for a product claimed to be "the only slider in the world that you can fit in your backpack." Kind of implies taking it outside, right? Where it might be more susceptible to humid or moist conditions.

Then again, I've contacted them 3 times about the error on their web site. And while they fixed the worst of the errors, they are apparently fine with keeping the remaining error, which still looks like this as of now:

Just makes me feel that the care they took with the industrial design of their products didn't really translate down to manufacturing or marketing. I have to say, hearing about the rusting ball bearings has turned me off of their products.

To be fair the Edelkrone isn't exactly "cheap" either, maybe compared to Kessler yes, but you'd still expect it to be a good product. I like Edelkrone stuff but I have noticed they don't always get products right first time, for example, the Focus One Pro really just rectified issues with the original Focus One.

It sounds like with the Slider+ there maybe issues they've not foreseen.

That's the thing. If you charge top price, my tolerance for screwups goes way, way down. I'll tolerate problems with cheapo gear, but when you demand top prices, I demand top quality products. It's really up to you - if you find the gear useful, by all means, buy. I never saw the point of some of the Edelkrone gear, as it struck me as a bit of gimmicry and solutions in search of problems, but that's my perspective, and yours may be different.

why? can you share more specific details of the experience?

I have Spoken to Edelkrone, They are shipping me a set of "Improved" Bearings that hopefully wont rust so quickly.

Guys I just got mine in 2 days ago. No one has mentioned this yet, i guess because its hard to find, but there is a bumper in the center of the slider just below the rails. It flips up in between the 2 big bearings when the traveler is in the middle. This is really helpful for two things. A, it can be used in conjunction with the brake to lock the head down so that it has no play, and B, for transporting with zero chance of sliding.

To lock it down with zero play, put the traveler nearly dead center and lock it with the brake. Then use the small amount of play to push the traveler to one side and flip the bumper up. Now it will be solid with no play.
