So I saw the thread about the Slider+ and reviews seem to be nearly all positive. Curious, for those who purchased the original model, do you think that the new 1.5-3ft version is more ideal and do you think a single tripod could still support the move? Or is it better to purchase the original model?

For most purposes, I think the 2ft is more than enough but considering the 3ft version travels at 1.5ft, that might be too good a deal to pass up. Thoughts?

And while I'm at it, I'm also curious if the design of the Slider+ creates a bit of a stuttery or jerky motion during the middle of the slide? Nearly every test video I've seen shows that the move speeds up or gets jerky in the middle. Is this operator error or a flaw in the design?

Oh yeah, new slider is avail here: http://www.edelkrone.com/slider-plus/

Thanks!

FYI, SliderPlus travel is 1.3 feet. TrabelPlusXL is 2.6 feet, not 3 feet. Small difference, but a difference. I'm definitely going to be checking both out at NAB this year. I'll try to shoot some video and post it regarding the smoothness, assuming nobody else responds about your question before then!

BTW, if anyone wants a free pass to NAB, you can get the code/link here: https://timelapse.org/forums/threads/free-access-to-the-exhibits-at-nab-2013-in-las-vegas.319/ I'm signed up and that link does work!

Makes sense. I didn't realize it could only travel 1.3ft. That's not a lot. Then again, that might be enough for most of my purposes. Decisions, decisions.

I know, seems like it's only a tiny amount, and truthfully it is. The Plus seems like a much better option to me. If I had already bought the one they released a month ago, I'd probably be pretty upset right now.

Prices on both are still too high IMO.

Well, I bought the original model last month, and I don't regret it at all. Sure, I'd like a little bit more travel, but I can easily fit the smaller model in a small backpack. It's a cool little slider when all you need is a short move.

If it's anything like any other edelkrone product, you can rest assure it's an amazing product. It may take a generation in some cases, But Kadir has a totally different approach to film gear. He's very talented and really innovative in his designs. I been using his gear since the old Handy35 dof days, not just speculating.

I have little doubt about the quality. I've been considering the Modula 3 or 5. Saw them last year at NAB but I wasn't ready to build a DSLR rig back then.

They look like great innovative bits of kit, shame they're only really suitable for lightweight cameras - weight distribution would just cause too many headaches with a heavier camera and the entire mass of the slider hanging off one side of a tripod.

Slider+ travel is NOT 1.3 feet. It travels at least 2 feet. Where in the world do you get that the slider moves 1.3 feet????

From their website (http://www.edelkrone.com/slider-plus/):

Clearly Edelkrone has an error on their site.

SliderPLUS says 521mm. That is 1 ft 8.5 inches. So that's an error. But it's still 3 1/2 inches short of "at least 2 feet".
SliderPLUSXL says 790mm. That is 2 ft 7.1 inches. So that's another error.

They're good at making products.

Math, not so much! :D

Thats' 1.3 feet when not mounted on a tripod. "ON THE GROUND". When you mount to the tripod it travels 2.6 feet end to end.

Look again. It says "Travel on Tripod" on the right column:

"SliderPLUS+: 521mm (1.3 ft.)" That is WRONG.

"SliderPLUSXL: 790mm (2.6 ft.)" That is ALSO WRONG.

Also note that both of the circled bits below can't be true.

Finally, if the SliderPLUS is really 1.3 ft (as it incorrectly says) then the SliderPLUSXL shows that it is twice the travel length (2.6 ft). Right?

1.3 x 2 = 2.6.

But 521mm x 2 = 1042mm. NOT 790mm that it says.

So.... I'm trying to think of another way to point out that the numbers they have published are wrong, but I think by now you've probably see the problem.

DUde, I don't need to look at the site, I own one. The slider plus travels on a tripod from end to end 1 foot 9 inches. On the ground it travels less.

Wait a second. It travels 1 foot 9 inches? Before you said:

Which is it? It seems you're as confused as their web site is. Saying it travels at least 2 feet when it clearly doesn't is completely unhelpful. You didn't even bother to measure before chiming in.

Oh, and was whacking me over the head with this really necessary?

Where in the world do you get that the slider moves 1.3 feet????

I answered. ON THEIR SITE. I don't own one, so when I went looking for the travel length I went to the one place that would be authoritative - the site of the people who make and sell the slider.

What I find amusing is that I even answered with a screen grab so you wouldn't have to take 2 seconds to look at their site. Oh, and I provided a link to their site so you COULD go look if you wanted to.

Um, that's what Keylight is saying. That there is an error on the site. He even went to the trouble to draw little circles for you.

Well that, and he's questioning your previous assertion of "at least 2 feet", I guess.

Otherwise, how is the slider?

I used 1'9" after I measured the lens center. Is that not at least 2 feet? so I'm 3 inches short before measuring the LENS CENTER. Why are you combating this? You're the guy that first said it traveled 1.3 feet total.

I OWN THE DAMN THING. The unit measures 14 inches as a device. But it will make a slide movement from center of lens end to end 21.5 inches (1 foot 9.5 inches, gonna call me out on the 1/2 inch now?). What else do you need? Name another slider packs that small and will move that far (Slider, not a ladder dolly). Now they have a longer version. So what. I bought this to pack in a small bag. If I need 5 feet slide, I'll use a traditional slider.

So what is your point, or your gripe, or concern. If one of those products looks good to you, buy it. It's well made. If they don't suit you, MOVE ALONG....

But in the end, YOU are wrong saying the Slider+ (not the XL) travels 1.3 feet.

There seems to be some discrepancy about this, due to an error on the site.

Dusty owns one, so I'll take his word at a foot and 9 inches, which is much better than 1.3ft. I really want to purchase one of these models but I might wait and see the early reviews or the side-by-side before I make my decision. I've been holding off on a slider for awhile, waiting for the right one and I think one of these is it.
