The title intrigues me. With the word moon in the title I get the impression it is a sci-fi western? I'm thinking maybe of doing one of those myself.

Yes, it's a space western. My daughter says this is uber cheesy, but I didn't want to do a straight western. Horror westerns have been done. I think there is some more water left in the Sci-Fi Western's well.

Sounds good Chris. I can't wait to see what you've got for us. And cheesy can be good and fun so don't feel bad.

You're right, there really aren't that many well known or iconic space westerns that I can think of off the top of my head. Obviously Firefly/Serenity comes to mind, but besides that the arena seems pretty open.

I will probably be doing a sci-fi (not space) western so I'm glad to know I won't be the only one with a non-traditional one.

I think most will probably try and take an angle on the western cross genre or in some strange setting! I think authentic westerns may be in the minority in the end! Not that it matters! Mines will be a Scottish Western!

Sounds interesting lawriejaffa. I don't think I can say I've ever even heard of a Scottish Western, so your idea sounds pretty unique already. I can't wait to see what it turns out as.

I actually would like to write a traditional western, but right now I have three story ideas that are all combos of the western with another time period or genre.

Yep well im basically taking as a kind of premise regarding westerns that they are comprised of sweeping landscapes - and archetype characters that are themselves like mountains ;) epic stuff! I take Sergio as a bit of an inspiration myself which is of course a European introspection on the American West!

What about you Chris is there any cinematic influences your playing with for your script?

I'm definitely trying to show that Firefly was a brilliant idea. So I'm exploring that world with a little bit of 'Enemy Mine' thrown in. I'm in no way a student of film.

Whenever, I think of Western stories I'm always hit in the face with Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' series. I mean Roland, the gunslinger is definitely what I see as an old west gun fighter. I would love to see this on film, hell I would love to write it.

i think star wars drained the sci-fi western well

Yah well porn ain't that original either but folks love what folks love. I'll enjoy the most unoriginal sounding premise if its presented with authentic originality.

Nah, there's other great stuff like Firefly, Outland, and even elements of the anime Cowboy Bebop that have done the sci-fi western in a different or slightly more realistic way.

You could have said the same thing about other sci-fi subgenres like cyberpunk before The Matrix came out, or with space opera before the new Battlestar Galactica aired.

lIke the title and the idea. Makes me think we're in for a script that will make us think. (is that redundant?)You know what I mean.

Finally, I think I'm done.

I really didn't think I would enjoy this, but I did. Now, if anyone will enjoy it, who knows. It was an interesting experience anyway.

I'm glad to see something in this genre. I loved firefly and I think the Sci-fi Western genre has loads of merit. Can't wait to read it.
