"Skels" - Television Pilot Pics

Hey guys! Just wanted to post a link to a collection of stills from a television pilot I shot this summer. The footage was shot on a Panasonic SDX900 with a Canon 4.3-56mm T2 Cine Zoom Lens. The pics are color corrected in a rudimentary way as most of the coloring was in camera and still has to be finalized. Since the SDX is basically the DVX's bigger brother I thought this was an appropriate place to post these stills. Take a look and drop me some feedback! Thanks!

Hey guys - I just took a look at these stills on my friend's PC (I have a Mac) and they seem very, very dark. I am not sure why this is, as most of the detail on the darker shots is gone on the fill side....not sure why this is....

To answer a post from below I was the cinematographer...

Those are some great grabs! I am always impressed with the images that come of the SDX900. Lately, I have been seeing both the 800 & 900 on a lot of projects, haven't operated either myself, but hope to at some point in the near future.

Was this pilot picked up?

Were you the DP or camera op on this one?

Definetly has that movie look, i notice the subject ur your stills has very crisp focus. There's alot of contrast indeed, I guess thats the look, but on some of the stills it gets too dark, I think if we see a clip it wont be that big of deal. very nice work, I hope to one day operate one of these bad boys, but gotta start slow, my next step is the hvx200 and who knows what else after that eh? very impressive!

Looks like a film, very sharp and great colors.Very professional work.

SDX900... I want one :(

Acore,

stunning, as the other work I've seen from you. This camera is definately amazing for broadcast television, especially during times of lower and lower budgets... And you are certainly worthy of it (and many others)!

Beautiful shots. A lot of closeups and medium shots of the actors, seems really character driven... But hey, that is TV right?

Seems like a cool show, I hope it airs someday!

Very beautiful shots! I'll be darned if viewers can tell it isn't shot on film. Ecxellent.

Gotta wonder, is it worth getting a tricked out HVX200 ($8000 including the Firestore DTE drive) for indie filmmaking or an SDX900 rental. If it's for film blowup, which would be better... DVCProHD 1080/24p on 1/3" CCDs or DVCPro50 SD on 2/3" CCDs and pro lens?

Well - we'll have to wait and see about the HVX, but after the $8000.00, at least you own the thing! I saw a comparison between the Varricam and the SDX on a 55" plasma at Abel Cine Tech and there is a marked difference - especially in the wides, as the SDX still fell off in terms of detail on that large of a display, but the production was really tight on money (what else is new!) and I knew that it was never going for a blow-up so we settled on the SDX - which is a magnificent camera in terms of bang for the buck. The only thing I fought adamantly for was the Canon lens as it was warmer than any of the other "Cine" zooms they had, with a softer feel. It was slower, especially on the telephoto end (about T2.7), but resolution and feel were definitely more filmic. I'll post a clip soon, so you can see it in motion.

Very very nice grabs, the CC and contrast puts me in a mood to see Traffic again, or just...see this. Great luck with everything, I love the sweaty style you have going.

yeah - shot in NY this July - you know how damn hot it was! So, the sweaty asthetic entered into most of the scenes. It works great in picking up highlights so I didn't mind at all!

I REALLY like these. Great detail, great lighting, crisp as lettuce. Have you ever used the DVX? I'd love to see what you can do with our little camera. Good luck.

Mentatduke - yes I have. I own a 100a and it is a really fantastic camera - it makes sense that panasonic has so much confidence in it - the SDX900 in fact has a color preset called DVX Match - so it tells you how closely in fact these cameras are related to one another.

that's really cool. i'd love to see samples of your dvx work. which shots in your reel are done with the dvx? thanks for the info.

I am having trouble outputting an anamorphic image in quicktime that does not look squeezed - as soon as I solve that little conundrum I will post some footage. Anyone got any ideas for me? I am using FCPHD or I can use compressor.
