Size of ccds and Jiggle factor

LOL, it seems JVC has published the HVX200 pixel count for Panasonic.
No, sorry, no "scoop" here!

You guys are reading too much into what's on that page. First of all, the 960x720 (and 1440x1080) don't refer to native CCD pixel count at all -- they're talking about the recorded format pixel count. And it's been known for at least four years that DVCPRO-HD 720p is 960x720. Has nothing to do with the chips -- the VariCam uses 1280x720 chips but records in a 960x720 format.

Second, if you want to go hunting for conspiracies, it sure sounds like they're implying that the Canon is using the Sony CCDs, as they use the term "effective" pixels -- and that's the same word Canon uses. Is Canon using a pixel-shifted 960 to generate 1440 "effective" pixels? And then, if it is the Sony Chip, is their 24F mode really just CF25, but clocking the CCD at 48hz instead of 50hz?

Well, they didn't specify if they are talking about native pixel count or recorded format pixel count. Since the HD100 is listed as full 1280x720, I thought they were talking native pixel count.
So DVCPRO HD records 960x720 and ProHD HDV records full 1280x720? Interesting.

I don't know. I was aware of the fact that DVCPRO was only 960*720, but it seemed that they were talking about the CCD resolution. Well, we only know for sure if panasonic releases it. Anyhow, due to all secrecy and all, everybody is now expecting something like 960x720 or 960x1080(interlaced) or anyhow a number well under 1280x1080(progressive)....

Yes but DVCPROHD is 4:2:2 so u should take that into consideration.

I didn't think that there was any room for conspiracy theories regarding the native pixel count of the XL H1's CCDs -- Canon has stated it's 1.67 megapixels, of which 1,555,200 are active (for an actual, un-pixel-shifted 1,440 x 1,080 resolution). I guess it's possible that only 960 horizontal pixels are active, and 500 or so per row are unused, but that would be pretty silly, given the inverse relationship between pixel density and light sensitivity.

Now the reclocking of the CCD to turn CF25 into 24 fps is an interesting idea, but if this were true, only a perverse determination not to include a usable 24-fps mode could explain why Sony didn't implement it on the Z1. While Sony is fully capable of making such a cynical, self-serving decision, if it transpired that Canon were indeed using the same CCD as in the Z1 but were significantly mproving its functionality, that would make Sony look pretty stupid.

I think it would make Panasonic look bad if some other company revealed the pixel count of the HVX200's CCDs.

I agree with you that there's no new information on that page.
