Size of ccds and Jiggle factor

Have the dimensions of the ccds been published .... are they oblong or square?

In as much, when recording video directly onto p2 cards, to what extent does the hvx jiggle when hot-swapping the cards during a continuous run?

Richard

They're native 16:9 CCDs.

And it'll jiggle in direct proportion to how heavy-duty your tripod is; if you're shooting handheld I doubt you could swap cards without jiggling. If you have it mounted on a 3066 head you could probably swap jiggle-free.

aha the question again... Barry, still no official statement on that? I believe I read here somewhere (I just read this - nothing sure about it...) that a pana-rep told someone: 'around 1 megapixel', so my guess would be 960x720 or 1280x720 or (perhaps) 960x1080 (like the sony). 1920x1080 or even 1280x1080 would make the camcorder more expensive en less sensitive than what would be acceptable for marketing purposes, I guess....

Please do a search on the forums. This issue has been beaten to death, and you just look like someone who's really lazy or just trying to annoy people by making posts like this. The official CCD specs have NOT been released, they will NOT be released before the camera's introduction to the marketplace, and even then it is their perogative as to wether or not to release that information (though it is likely that once the camera is released, someone will be able to deduce the information.) Please stop asking, it's not going to get you an answer any faster.

Well, I am lazy at times but his is not one of them. I generally don't wish to be unduly annoying, either. If others have asked before, I apologise. But with a purchase order placed, it hardly seems unreasonable to ask for real pictures and specs. No?

It doesn't seem unreasonable, but that's the way it is. And no, it wouldn't be such a big deal if every other post wasn't asking this question, but it's been answered a million times already.

Jan will have a full, working version of the camera on November 8th. She has said that a new promotional DVD will be made after that point which will contain HVX footage. That's all we know. When that DVD will be made available has not been disclosed yet. You just have to be patient.

Also, if you have already placed an order for the camera that required a deposit, then it seems that you're interested in getting the camera regardless of what the footage looks like and this whole thing is essentially moot. If you didn't have to place a deposit, then you have nothing to worry about as footage will be made available to the public well in advance of the camera's release, which is "sometime in December" (many are speculating it won't be until very close to the new year). I guarantee you that when footage has been released, you'll know about it. This forum will be overflowing with guests and members salivating over it, eagerly waiting to post their "expert" opinions.

It has been said before, but it is indeed strange panasonic won't release those specs. Everyone is waiting on those... JVC had theirs out some time before release. It makes potential buyers think, and I can't say I don't understand that....

Jan has stated that Panasonic doesn't want a battle of the numbers, which is pretty pointless... but boy do I hope the HVX has a 800x digital zoom!

if it is only 800* digital zoom I don't want the hvx anymore. moreover I expect that the ccd will be at least 2500* 1900 pixels

I also want sepia/old movie as an in camera effect. I would really be dissapointed if I have to pay 10 000$ for something that cant do what my great grandfathers cam could do incam.

If they could do it 1908 why cant they do it 2005??? ;)

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : ccd

... too short?

All very funny, but I really really CAN'T blame anyone if they have some questions if the spokesman of a company sais "we don't want to start a war of numbers". You can't blame anyone if they're thinking that's a remark to conceal actual specs that have a drastic influence on quality... You have to admit that the most objective info doesn't come from the infobrochure of the producing company, so anyone will be forgiven for wanting to make their own decision based on specs, rather then a statement from the company.... Bob is right to ask, it isn't compulsory to swallow any statement from a panny spokesperson - I have no prob with Bob's question whatsoever...

Every Panasonic DVCProHD camera released to date (that I am aware of) has 1280x720 CCD's for both 720P and 1080i resolutions.

Pixel quantity and sample quantity are different but related figures. Based on some well thought out posts in the forums, it seems possible to obtain more samples than the number of pixels on a chip. In other words, a camera with 720 CCD's could very well gather enough information for 1080 resolution. Honestly, the level of sophistication in the new camera designs is mind boggling and unless you are a computer programmer it'll bring you nothing but a headache trying to understand it.

I wouldn't worry about the number of pixels on the camera because the lenses, combined with the physical dimensions of the CCD's (being necessarily very, very little) will limit the resolution on this camera.

Your question is entirely reasonable, but that doesn't change their release schedule.

LOL, it seems JVC has published the HVX200 pixel count for Panasonic.

I found it kind of ironic and hilarious when I read it, since Panasonic is being so secretive about it. Then JVC just go out and spill the beans. They don't say HVX200, but it's pretty obvious they are talking about the HVX200. What other 720p 4:2:2 HD100 competitor is there?
They call it “Frame Bound Competitor” and call the Z1 “HDV Competitor”. According to them, Frame Bound Competitor (obviously HVX200) has a native pixel count of 960x720. HDV Competitor is listed as 1440x1080 (Obviously Z1).
So it seems we were all right about the HVX200 native pixel count being 960x720. JVC may have some inside information, since they both belong to the same company.
You want to bet this won’t stay too long online?
Panasonic will be placing a call to their mom Matsush§&% and complaining about the misbehaving of their little sister.
Now seriously, I don’t mean to start anything here, but I was really surprised and couldn’t help to get a good laugh out of it, given the whole mystery aura Panasonic has created around the issue. Did anybody else see that?
The good news is that we at least know the HVX200 will have no split screen, which is a consequence of small 1/3” CCDs with full HD pixel count.

It's on the FAQ JVC HD100 page.

richard,

i think what you are being chastised about is that just a few line above this forum is a sticky forum thread that says "established info" on the hvx 200. if you have more info needs just go there and save yourself and us more rants about people asking the same questions.

i am one of those that doesn't care if the pixel count is 300 x 400 - i just like the dvcpro hd codec and every other dvcpro recorded material for the applications i want to use it for. at the end of the day that is all it really matters - what it looks like and does it accomplish what you want to and still give you some room to grow.

Well I was thinking just that... :-)

Panasonic can still hope potential HVX buyers won't look their and keep part of the mystery?

Except that the native resolution of the Z1's CCDs is 960 x 1,080. The Canon XL H1's CCDs are 1,440 x 1,080.

The question is wheter you can call the canon a competitor? It's half the price more? (and weird enough - the JVC is the professional cam with professional controls, whereas the canon originates from a consumer source - all despite the price)
