simple question about 300/370

According to B&H specifications it is 21.6 inches without the battery. Batteries come in different sizes so you will need to determine what power source you plan to use in order to add that to the total length. IDX, Anton Bauer, etc. are all available for this camera.

21.5" with Lens hood (and lens hood cap). Cap is 1/4", Hood is approx 1 1/2" beyond front of lens. Battery depends on which battery you are using of course.

Hey Powerdog, My HPX370 with lens hood, cap and Anton Bauer Dionic 90 battery is 23 5/8"
Hope this helps

Scott, I'll probably have to wait and see how the camera fits in the case. But you might know. This is how I'm currently using it, with an XL h1.

The foam is pretty warn out, but I might be able to reuse it if I'm just going to make the opening wider. I measure the XL at about 18x11.5.

I guess one question is, would the 370 be likely to fit, either diagonally or straight across, with the battery attached? Even w/o the battery attached, I could afford new foam easier than a whole new case.

Also, the interior height of the case is given as 10 inches...exactly what the 370 is. So I'm hoping that mesurement doesn't include the extra couple of inches from the lid.

Hey Powerdog, I am in the same boat, I have a large Pelican case that I
carried my large format camera and stuff in. I thought it would be large
enough for the 370, I checked the length but after I received the camera
the problem turned out to be the depth. I would like a hard case for protection.
I hope you get this figured out when I’m ready to look for one.
Scott

Sorry I missed that you needed the height. Sitting on a table, the front of the handle is 9 3/4", at the back of the handle it's 10". Also the length without the battery is 21 7/8". Without battery and lens hood it's
19 3/4". I have, in addition to the battery, I have the Anton Bauer Tandem charger/power supply, my total length with lens hood, charger and battery is 25 3/8". I can easily remove the charger, which
I may do depending on how it feels and balances. Let me know if you need any other measurements.

I have always liked Pelican cases, I have several. This one looks good, I like the wheels. The only thing I can see is the length ( inside 22 1/6" ) so at the very least you will have to remove the battery
and lens hood. The battery is no problem but the if you have a protective filter ( I hope you do ) you have to remove the filter before you can remove the hood, no big deal just an inconvenience.
I wonder what the minimum amount of padding is required ( the more the better )? If you remove both lens hood and battery the camera length is 19 3/4" so that will leave a little bit more
than 1" on either side. I guess that might be enough.

But what about placing the camera diagonally, as shown in my photo of the XL H1. That 1620 case should give you an almost 28 inch diagonal. Depending on how wide the lens hood and battery are, and how much room there is in the diagonal corners of the case. you might be able to put the whole thing in or at most remove just the battery. Of course, foam would probably be a better option than dividers for this.

That would work, I was just thinking about all the other stuff that seems to accumulate. I still like the hard side storage.

I thought camera was 10 inches high. That Storm case would only give you half an inch of padding.

Too bad the custom Panny case is never shown with dimensions. I guess they figure we'd all buy cheaper brands.

This might be useful to hard case buyers:

Measuring my PB2750, I discovered that the claimed interior dimension of 10 inches (depth) is for both the bottom and top. So a 370 would be touching both walls, and any flexing from impact would be absorbed by the camera. I guess a case with at least 12" is needed.

Sometime ago I spec'd out a traditional Portabrace camera case for the HPX300 with the good people at the factory in Bennington, VT. They said I could come up and see it being built. Nothing like buying local. Never did pull the trigger on the camera, so never had the case made. Still renting, as needed.

Well, PB is in Vermont and I live in Vermont, so I guess that's pretty local for me. I like their hard cases because the latches don't snap my fingers, the way Pelican latches do. Ouch!

For what it's worth I use this case if camera is being shipped or just put in a truck with other gear...
