C200: Sigma Art Video AF with new Firmware

Has anyone tried the Sigma Art lenses which have just received a FW update (I believe 2.0) from Sigma in video AF yet?

Although not specifically mentioned in the FW update, there have been widespread reports/confirmations that this update fixed long-standing issues in Canon live view DPAF, so there is a high possibility it may have improved video DPAF too.

I don't have any SA lenses to test myself, as I'd always been put off by possible AF issues, but this sounds very promising!

[N.B., also posted this in the Canon FF forum, as it's relevant there also.]

The crop on the 5D4 is 1.7ish, so smaller than APS-C, when shooting 4K.

This.

I would only use this lens for 4K video on the 5D4, not stills, but if it works well with DPAF now, it saves buying a second set of focal lengths with faster apertures than I'd need for FF stills.

Very cool.

Did you try tracking AF, or Face Tracking yet?

Yeah but still on the slower side at responding because for some reason you don't get AF Speed adjustment with the 18-35 like my 50-100 and 24-105 Sigma ART lenses give me, So at f1.8, you see it heavily. f2.8 is much more reliable.

That's a bummer. It's such a good lens, and the point of owning that one is f/1.8 in a way...

I mean it's slow but smooth. Kind of a personal preference. for fast paste action It will struggle but for stationary subtle movement, It will be fine.

I will say this though, last night I set up a Interview style shoot and it focusing on the right eye ie closer one to the camera. before the update even with micro adjustment it always focused on the wrong eye, drove me nuts lol

3dit0r, you should really try the lens out for yourself. Using a lens is a very personal thing. Online reviews don't tell the whole story. I for one have been using the 18-35 1.8 on C100s, C100 MKIIs, and C300 MKIIs, and I think it works great.

Just adding to the chorus that the 2.00 firmware for my Sigma 18-35 Art GREATLY improved AF capabilities for my C200. I had my first real shoot with the C200 a few weeks ago and was pretty frustrated with the AF from the Sigma. I had used it to great success on my C100 in the past but it felt like it was hunting and losing focus much more so on the C200. Issues begone tho!

I also have the 50mm and 85mm but haven't had a chance to test those yet.

That's great to know!
If possible, please share your experiences with the 50 and 85mm when you test it. I'm considering getting those lenses btw :)

Just wondering if anyone here has compared the autofocus of Canon "L" series lenses to Sigma Art. Are they more or less the same with this latest Sigma 2.0 firmware update?
