Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 OS for video?

Hi All,
I'm in the market for a high quality 70-200mm and it is between the Canon and the Sigma. I'm going for f/2.8 with image stabilization. Both lenses have the stabilization (IS/OS), but I'm wondering if Sigma's OS works well for video. I've read that it engages when the button is pressed half way down. I suppose it saves battery to not have it running all the time, but wouldn't this render it useless for recording in video mode? Does the Canon IS work differently (I know it is no problem on my 17-55 Canon).
I have also read it is much louder. I'm wondering how much louder? I never record camera audio (esp. not when using any IS), but I just want to know if it could even be an issue for a close range interview to a lav or something.
I'm having a hard time justifying paying an extra $1000 for the Canon, but this IS issue is essential. I'm not sure it is worth $1000 for weather proofing and a Canon name.
Thanks!

I cant praise the Canon enough, sharp, IS works unbelievably well, feels super solid. The IS half-press you're talking about is on photo mode, in video mode it will be engaged constantly so long as you switch the IS/OS on, cant see this being any different on the Sigma one. With a 70mm+, you're not going to pick up IS noise from a lav, I wouldnt worry.
