so what?....focus manually...it's a good lens. just sayin. but if lack of autofocus peeves you, then youve made your decision.

For $500 for the Sigma plus adapter, i would want it to at least AF. It's bad enough there isn't any IS in the 20mm, the sigma 30mm, nor the GH1 body. It's like "Yeah, the GH1 can take any lens!!! Sorta." It's such a catch 22.

any decent stabilization tool works best with no IS enabled anyway....so if you're running around with the thing all willy-nilly, then yeah, i see your point.

EDIT: well, the AF thing is always a bummer, so until someone makes an adapter that touches the contacts of the m4/3 mount, and relays the signal to the lens, we're all screwed.

#1, the ZazaSlider...search it here.

The Hague Mini stabilizer has provided great results as a nice price.

Glidecam hd1000 or 2000.

Google it all if you're not familiar.

Good tripod/fluid head combo.

etc etc etc

No it's not, because all this kind of stabilization doesn't work that well with moving images anyway - train to hold the camera steady, it's part of the craft as a camera operator. I've yet to see a 16mm / 35mm movie camera with IS...

why would you assume i was referring to video only? For stills photo shoots, i generally don't want a tripod or anything that requires more setup time. i think most photographers prefer handheld, and for that, i would like some IS.

Edit: and Skinny, i thought u meant stabilization tools for still photography, like software or something i never heard of. i know about all the things you mentioned. thanks tho.

OK - fair point. I keep forgetting that GH1 is also a stills camera, I've yet to take one with mine.

damn, i don't think anyone on this board bought the gh1 for a stills cam...i took some today though, for the first time in the 6 months i've owned it. i think at its best, it's still a better video camera.

yeah i don't know anyone who bought it for a still camera either. i bought it for both.

d1...you know where the GH1 does well for stills?...long exposures....i'm having fun with it lately.

night time...when the kit lense can't do anything else;-)

i know right. i'd like to see what you come up with. post em if/when you can. you know what'd be cool? if there was like, a small challenges subforum, like this for example:

Night shots with GH1 kit lens. It'd be inspiring to see what people could come up with. Definitely would stop me from whining about limitations.
