Sigma 30mm 1.4 aps-c or 35mm rokinon 1.4 Full frame lens?

I'm looking for a lens within this range, just curious if anyone out there has any feedback on them.

both lenses have very good reputation. Both will cover the APS-C sized sensor. I think that the Sigma is slightly less expensive, but also less future-proof (but a lens that covers super-35 should still be good)

There will be several ergonomic differences as well: since the sigma is an AF lens you will have to deal with a shorter focus throw than the Samyang (same as the rokinon; the rokinon is a rebrand), as well as needing an adaptor to adjust aperture on the Nikon version (all of the versions of the Samyang have a manual aperture ring)

Personally, I think I would go with the Samyang, but I doubt you will be disappointed with either choice.

Thanks for the feedback on the lenses.

does anyone have experience with the Sigma 28mm 1.8? It's specs are close to the 30mm but it does work on FF cameras. Any opinions on this option?

+1 for the 35mm 1.4 rokinon.. love the footage you get out of that lens with the super smooth focus pulls.

I've had both the Sigma and the Samyang that you are talking about. I personally like the Samyang better. The mechanics are better for manual focusing with hard stops on the Samyang, and I like the colors better. The Sigma lenses that I have, tend to skew a bit more yellow, where as the Samyang seems to be more neutral in color.

Plus, Samyang is full frame which Sigma is not, so it will work on the 5D. Plus, the Samyang has a closer minimum focus which is nice.

Go Samyang.

The nice thing to have is a 24mm then a 35mm. That's a good range for fixed lenses. the extra 11mm is a big difference in field of view.

24mm to 35mm is better than 24mm to 30mm IMO.

I love the Rokinon 35 & the 85. Thinking about selling my zeiss 24mm emount and buying the new Rokinon 24mm just because, like the manual feel better

Wow, better than the Zeiss? I like my Samyang, but my Zeiss ZF mechanics are on another level. The focus ring on Zeiss is insane. But they cost way more.

I would be careful with Samyang 24mm. I believe it's has not got good reviews, unlike the 35mm which was / is a hit.

Hard to use a matte box with the small lens size of the Sony Zeiss 24mm e mount. Very small piece of glass. Great for my Nex 7 though because of mount.

I have both the 30mm APS Sigma and the 35 Rokinon. For video, no contest, Rokinon. I also have the more expensive 24mm Rokinon. For video again no contest.

Sigma is ok, though very shallow and stiff manual focus. However for stills it does autofocus. It is also a lot smaller than the Rokinon (Samyang). However, if the Rokinon's were out before I got the Sigma a couple of years ago, I would have gotten the Rokinons, can't beat the prices, image quality, velvety focus throw.

If only samyang made a lens in the 17-20mm range =(

With that said, I love my samyang 35mm and 85mm. Gets pretty darn close in mechanics and quality to those Zeiss ZF lenses at a fraction of the price (to my eye at least)

I think Optically, at least on the 35mm it's pretty close to Zeiss. But owning lenses from both companies, I can definitely say that Zeiss mechanics are on another level than Samyang. It's not really close at all really, but Samyang does have decent mechanics, but Zeiss has the best mechanics.

With that said, I had the Zeiss 35mm f1.4 and returned it, and I choose the Samyang 35mm over the Zeiss. Why? The Zeiss 35mm f1.4 had crazy amounts of Chromatic Aberrations under f2. It was pretty bad for a lens that costs that much.

The Samyang 35mm was definately cleaner shooting wide open and it was was 1/3rd of the price.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and give a +1 to the 30mm Sigma. The focus throw is too much on the Samyang for my tastes. I can focus very quickly on the Sigma by just hand, don't need hard stops or focus marks. With the Samyang, everything is harder and takes longer. Also, the Sigma is slightly wider, which is better for me. Though I tried my friends 30mm sigma and for some reason the focus throw was stiffer on that one. My version has a perfect focus smoothness/stiffness ratio.
