C300: Sigma 18-35 Art lens question

Getting ready to order the C300 Mark II. I had the 24-105 that came with the C100 II but it wasn't wide enough indoors so I sold it.

I did a search and didn't find an answer to this specific question: do all functions work with the Sigma 18 - 35mm Art lens and the C300 Mark II including the dual pixel focus guide (top of page 79 in the manual)?

While I'm thinking of it - how important is image stabilization? Do users feel it's not as important at the wide-end or at all with this lens?

Thanks,

Paul

These are very different lenses with very different purposes. IS isn't generally as important as you go wider, in my opinion, but it's always nice to have one lens with IS in the general-purpose range. The 24-105 you sold was actually perfect for that.

If you'd kept the 24-105 and added the 18-35 to your collection I'd say you have most bases covered. The 18-35 is sharp and great in low light, but you're going to eventually need something with more reach.

I've used the 18-35 on my c100 and it works fine. It had to be calibrated properly with a Sigma dongle beforehand, though. My DP took care of that on the particular shoot I was on where this lens was used.

I just tested my Sigma 18-35 on my new C300mk2. The DPAF works at various apertures (some third-party lenses only work wide open).

When I originally bought the 18-35, I also bought the optional dock, so I could update the lens to work with DPAF on the C100.

Thanks drummond. Does this include the manual focus screen indicators (top of page 79 in manual)?

I got rid of the 24-105 as it wasn't wide enough for most indoor shoots. I have other lenses at the longer end.
