GH4 Sigma 1.8 vs Panasonic 2.8

Has anyone used both these lenses and noticed a big jump in image quality using the sigma over the panasonic lens. Its the sigma 1.8 18-35 and the 12-35 panasonic 2.8. I love the panasonic lens for outdoor shooting and just getting the shot in focus etc. But I wonder if the sigma has a huge jump in image quality.

Thanks for any input :)

I much prefer the Sigma 18-35mm (with Metabones Speedbooster) to the Panasonic Lumix 12-35mm for image quality. I especially like the Sigma/Speedbooster for interviews. But the Lumix is good for run'n'gun hand-held work (OIS) and also photography (Autofocus).

There are several threads here that compare these two lenses.

get the 12-35 pana since you can AF and don't have to spend another $400 for the smart adapter in order for you to get AF.

if it is either / or:

run and gun: get the Panasonic
slow scene setups like movie etc: the Sigma

I have both, and although they seem to look a tad different, I haven't noticed any BIG difference other than the Sigma has more light. I use them both depending on the above circumstances. my 2 cents
(I have no powered adapters for the Sigma, and use it fully manually)

I have both lenses and I will not say there is a noticeable difference in image quality. The native 12-35 lens with OIS is much easier to use, and I have no experience with the Sigma/Speedboost combination.

I own both.

12-35 is for working quick and small. IQ is ok.
Sig 18-35 with or without SB for better IQ and controllable focus pulling. Its heavy, though, and not a walk-around lens... rig or tripod only.

I'm not the guy to talk to about choosing one lens over the other, though. I can't even part with my old Leica D 14-50 in that range.

Panasonic 12-35 is always going to be more useful and adaptable, having both IS and AF capabilities plus all the other helpful assistance of the electronic connection with the GH4. As for the Sigma, it is indeed better quality but since you are only going to use it on a tripod or monopod you also could go with primes for equal or better IQ. Unless you are filming a live event, say, but the range may not suit many such events.

i have both. The Sigma will give you a better looking shot. The Panasonic 12-35 will give you an easier shot.
I've actually considered selling my 12-35mm just because I feel like I might never use it again.
