There is no correct shutter speed, otherwise it would be set to a "correct" speed automatically. The shutter speeds are an artistic choice........in general higher shutter speed = more motion blur, lower shutter speed = less motion blur among other things.

For a filmic approach use 1/48th in general.

Lake, et al, perhaps you already know this but I'll say it anyway as it initially caused my head to question what was said: Realize that with shutter speeds (designated in fractions), that "higher" does not mean the bigger looking fraction, so 1/4, 1/8, 1/15 are all "higher" numbers that tend to create blur. The smaller fractions 1/500, 1/1000, etc, do not cause blur, and are often used for fast action/movement like sports, and can also be used to control exposure in high light situations when the ND and aperture aren't enough. I believe the default for 24P is 1/48.

from my understanding you want to stay between 1/48 and 1/120. so 1/60 being average for most shots.. am I wrong?

For 24p for dvx 102ben, whats a better setting for shutter speed, as i am also editing on fcp .

Well, ncje. I thought it was the other way around. Fast shutter speed = less motion blur because the ocsillation of the shutter is much faster & allows much less light in. Slow shutter speed = more motion blur because the oscillation of the shutter is slower, thereby allowing more light in.

Andybiz is right. Faster shutter gives less blur than slower shutter. Ncje was referring to the higher and lower numbers...as explained by Shawn in post #3.
