Shutter Speeds?

Okay so I just got a DVX100A for christmas but the problem is when I try to change the shutter speed it seems to get darker? Why is that!?

As it shutter spins faster, it needs more light to get into the camera.

Do you have a defective model that has a 'clunk' sounds when you tip it back and forth when it is off?

I hear a little clicking noise, when it movies up and down. Sometimes.

It was new right out of the box, sould I take it back?
