Shutter Speed for Slow-Motion?

I want to get some really smooth slow-mo in 60i to be slowed down and de-interlaced to 24p. Will a higher shutter speed help or does it even matter?

It will help. If you leave it as 1/60 or 1/48 it will have a lot of motion blur. You want about 1/120.

You most likely want to mimic the look of a 180 degree shutter angle for slowmo. To get this from 60i you need to shoot 1/120 shutter speed. This will have, roughly, the same amount of motion blur as shooting 1/48 shutter for 24p, only the footage will be slowmo with similar motion blur to standard 24p.

It's just a starting point--some like to go with much faster shutter speeds for very crisp slowmo...like 1/250.

As always, experiment and figure out what suits your own particular tastes.

what are the advantage of 60i over 30p, i know 60i is better for fast moving objects but what else?

More motion information. Can deinterlace to 60p for slow motion.

1/120th seems the most natural to me. No stutter at all. Just remember for perfect slo mo of a converted 60i image placed in a 24fps timeline you need to set speed at 40% and turn frame blending off.
