AC90: Shutter speed and i Auto

I've usually run my AC90 with manual shutter speed 1/50th which is what I have selected in manual settings. But if I switch to intelligent auto obviously the shutter speed changes. What I have noticed is that when I switch back to manual again the shutter speed stays at the last auto setting eg: 1/250th. It seems I have to manually set the shutter speed back to 1/50th every time after using intelligent auto .... Has anyone else noticed this?

I am not sure if you had a typo or not. I generally like 1/120th for 1080p60fps. If I go to IA it seems to like to change the shutter speed to the whatever it wants. I was shooting outdoors and it would change to 1/180, but indoors with low light its was going to the slowest possible shutter speeds. Is that what you mean?

Steve. What I mean is that after using the camera in intelligent auto, the shutter speed seems to stay at whatever it was last at in the intelligent auto mode, even when I switch back to manual settings. I would have thought that the camera would then go back to my selected shutter speed of 1/50th. There are lots of things I like about the intelligent auto mode and I reckon people would often switch between the auto and manual modes as I have done. But I'd prefer to know what my shutter speed is at all times.
It's a pain to have to repeatedly set the shutter speed when going into manual mode after using intelligent auto.

strange, seems you're right. i can't really see this as a feature, so.. is it a bug?

shoot in auto -> switch back to manual -> shutter speed stays at last 'auto' setting, not at the setting you put there manually before switching to auto.. you'd expect it to go back to the old manual settings.

thinking of it it may have made a couple of shots too dark.

Well, think about it -- in auto mode, it has selected the combination of shutter speed and iris that leads to proper exposure. And that may mean a high shutter speed. So when you switch from iA back to manual it can do one of two things:
A) leave the settings as they are, and the image will continue to be properly exposed, or
B) reset the shutter speed to 1/50, in which case it is very likely that the camera will instantly be totally blown out with overexposure.

I dare say they chose A because it made for more consistent user experiences and if they'd gone B they would probably get all sorts of consumer complaints.

I think the ideal solution would have been to include a menu option to let us decide which behavior we would prefer.

Yeah thats fair enough Barry. In my case I usually don't change from one mode to another without stopping the camera first and making sure the image is right.

i think it does make sense when the shutter was on 'auto' before switching to iA..
if it was on a specific setting i think it should go back to that, especially because there is no quick manual control (like the iris ring)

anyway it is good to know this happens so it can be checked after switching.
