Shutter Angle

5D is best at 50, but the camera I tested didn't do 50. Just 60 and then 30. Duh. Ran into a guy today and all he shoots is 50. Shane Hurlbert shoots 50. Blah.

sorry no. Magic Lantern is only available for the 5d, the t2i and hopefully soon the 60d.

The chances of getting magic lantern on the 7d is pretty slim to none. Sorry.

As far as I know the 50th shutter on a t2i in reality is 48th shutter speed. It's just by declared to 1/50 by the canon firmware, but I'm not sure if it's the same case on a 7D...

Think of a circle when you think of shutter angle. A film camera with a 180 degree shutter angle has this spinning blade that has half of the 360 degree circle blocked and half open (hence the 180 degrees). It spins 360 degrees every frame. A 45 degree angle would have 7/8 of the circle blocked and 1/8 of it exposing per frame. So to translate 45 degree angle into shutter speed you would multiply your frame rate times 8.

At 24 fps it would be 192 and at 30 fps it would be 240.

The typical shutter speed for 24 fps film is 48 (180 degree angle) for common motion blur standards. That doesn't mean you can't change it to suit your needs. Just realize that it has an impact on motion blur.
