Shrinking F35

Making progress on old projects.

I had it running last night. Big break through came when I realized I could bypass the errors the camera gives when all the boards aren't plugged in. I am not putting the side panel on, the only way to control the camera will be through the assistant panel.

I ordered some more carbon fiber boards so the sides, back and top will be made of that, the bottom is the original bottom plate.

It's kind of incredible the power and heat the dock distribution board puts off. Pulling that board off the "fat" side of the camera means I don't need the big fans on the back of the camera.

If you were inclined to use old school terminology, it would be fun to refer to the "fat" said as the motor side, going back to the lineage of the F35 body following the Genesis, which was patterned after the classic Panaflex body shape. The operator-right side of the body housed the bulge of the drive motor, hence the term. In the AC world it was also called the "New York side"--traditionally the AC would pull from the operator left, but if circumstances dictated they'd switch over the New York side (NY being on the right side of the country!). Just some old school color for you...right up there with calling a 50mm a two-inch.

This is incredible! Been getting private updates of this progress, but seeing the photos just made me giggle!

Awesome stuff!

I have some more news to share soon about further integration with recorders but I am still working on it. But if Yachacha's build works, and I can pull this off, it is going to really change the usability of this camera.

I could make the f65 a whole lot smaller at the cost of 4k. The F65 is similar to the F35, the monitor out signal is processed on a smaller board and different path than the signal sent to the dock. On the F65 the board to send image over fiber optics is 1/2 the camera. Of course F65 needs the SRR4 to get 4k also so it’s just not in the cards.

Also I think F65 image not special enough for the trouble IMO. There are many more newer cameras with same quality or better 4k image. With F35 it's special because is the only 35mm CCD camera besides genesis. F65 is CMOS as all others even with 45° trick.

iphone added strange white speckles, looks pretty good in daylight. Removing the buttons from the side panel and replacing wasn't that hard, just needed good photos of it. The SONY Logo is easy to get out, the Cine Alta not so much, i dented it getting it out, in hindsight, might of just tried to cover it in tape while painting. Funny thought you can still but that Cine Alta sticker brand new from Sony parts not crazy price. I routed the power plate directly to a short Lemo cable on the battery plate instead of going through the DTAP.

I'm probably not going to re-label the buttons. Most I never used anyway. I have assist panel with labels.

here's the small one. It's taking on a strange form, I am going to shorten the front on the red line keep the side tall because you can see the "motherboard" mb board sits higher than everything else, there is a large space in the top of the camera over the CCD and boards once the dock hardware is gone. The fan will suck directly in from the top now.

That is very cool.

Once that top is figured out, the whole thing is just so manageable!

I saw that the SRW1 has a V mount plate that looks like it wold match the F35 look. Could be bolted to the back of the F35.

You can also see the “magic” of Barrett philips Nikon Mount in that photo. They cut all the space up to but kept the original pl mount holes.

Oh interesting. I hadn't seen the Nikon mod under the hood like that yet. Has anyone replaced the IR filter to get the "pink foliage" effect? The IR filter on the F35 looks really easy to swap out.
