I got my Berkey baseplate and topplate + shoulder pad. I love it, it is so tight.

To have it better ballanced on shouder and tripod I replaced the original 2" spacers for 1" spacers.
The rig is low and compact as I wanted. Just miss a EVF. I hoped the redrock would come out, but I don't think it's goin to happen.
To bad, I liked the round compact shape, it dont flip and it works on AA batt.

I don't like te current EVF's because to lump and bulky. Maybe buy the Zacuto by lack of better.

Got the redrock handle.
Also got the D|Matte mattebox. Wich doesn't need rail support. Ideal because the baseplate is to low for that.

Although not a scientific survey, I found it interesting to see so much Sony in all these pics.....

Is that a bad thing when you photograph a sony camera? :)
Do you think sony brand their camera to much, like Tommy Hilfinger their clothing??

So I've seen a lot of setups for shoulder mount and tripod, what if you want to do hand held. What are people doing? I find a lot I want the ability to get some movement, but don't want the camera always on my shoulder as that puts it really high for me on shots that I need it much lower. Thoughts? Pictures? :)

Hand held

Hand held

Rick,

Funny, I just broke my rig down last night and finished setting it back up now.
I didn't really like the hand held, so I'm up for input as well!

Yeah I agree the Berkey topplate and bottomplate with shoulder pad are fantastic. Light and strong. I have 1", 2" posts but I use the 1/1/2" baseplate posts to give me the ability to adjust vertical positioning of mattebox and I keep my miller fluid head plate on the bottom for quick handheld to tripod mounting:

Thats a cool rig Mico.

How do you like the Genus FF?

I bought it a couple a years ago before a million other follow focus's came out. It was the most affordable quality FF around. And to this day it's solid with no play or backlash. Great build quality and has a dampened butter smooth turning that feels great. And an easy quick reversible front to back gear.

I definitely use the Berkey plate, it's great. I think I just need to order some more Berkey hardware to hit out my hand held system more. The more options of moving around and testing things, I think I can come up with a better solution.

My Setup

My Setup

You guys have some awesome rigs. Here is my setup so far. I'm using the Panasonic GH2 with Juicedlink CX-231 and Rode NTG-3 Shotgun Mic on boom pole. I need to get myself a nice shoulder mount with follow focus, but these are a little out of my price range right now as I need to pick up a few lenses first. I'm using the kit 14-140mm lens for now. Will be adding the 20mm pancake and a few 50mm primes. I saved some money on a boom pole using a $17 telescopic painter's pole at Lowe's and attached a shockmount to the handle of a paint roller that I cut off at the top. I bought the shockmount dirt cheap on Ebay because the rubber rings were broken. I bought new rings at B&H and its like new. I cemented the shockmount onto the handle of the paint roller and it screws nicely onto the pole. You can unscrew it to use the mic handheld if needed as well. The Rode NTG-3 I bought used from B&H and the Juicedlink I bought used on Ebay. Working on some homemade lighting now.

That's pretty cool Morgan. More of a do-it yourself type job.

I have some TrustMT equipment coming from China pretty soon. I will probably go with the Berkey F3 bottom plate which I hope will also work with the FS100 (would like to use the rig for more than just the FS100 body). I'll post my rig within two weeks. It's really lame that I've owned the camera for 7 months and haven't shot a thing with it but tests. Just been so busy doing post work, but that's paying for the new rig and a Scarlet + Scarlet rig which will probably sit around for a while too, duh !!

I hope this is not insulting Morgan, but I really appreciate that steampunkish look of your rig.
The leather, that tripod plate, the mattebox is sooooo cool, and how it all comes together.
No really, I think this is very cool - all our gear looks (somewhat) the same.
Most of it is just form follows function and no company has the balls to bring a different design aspect into the game.

I find that making stuff like that plate for myself is very very educational

If I like it - I proceed and get stuff properly made in a machine shop

The main joy in this rig is good balance and ability to drop on sticks with no adjustment to the rig - its about working faaaast

There is also minor detailing like the mount which holds the SMallHD rigid that I don't know how people work without - I hate a monitor that comes undone with the smallest tap because its attached by a single screw..

Best

Here's mine. Fotga DP500 rails, RJ follow focus, ProAim MB700 matte box, cheap Chinese LCD, generic 5" articulating arm. All told for everything listed: $675. Not too shabby.
