@stancemedia: On the mic of FS-100, there is a plastic spacer. I took that spacer out and put on the NTG. ;)
@Andrew: Yes, that blue ring from Novoflex control the aperture.

I've been contemplating doing this myself, does it handle the extra weight well, the mic rig itself is pretty crappy, worried about that.

@LiamR: it handles the NTG pretty good. Once you plug the XLR cable to NTG, it kinda counter balance itself out. :)

yeah fair enough, will give it a shot tonight! are you using a custom xlr cable or a branded one?

i use Pro Co brand. Thin cable so i can attach it to the rail via Redrock microtie. Cleaner cable management

My NTG3 is not big enough to fill out the space.
This causes the mic to not be firmly in place.
Not fit for even test fitting and leaving on.

I believe you have the reverse of my problem?

take out the plastic spacer FROM your FS-100 and apply that to your NTG-3. That will make your NTG-3 fatter to fit the mic holder.

Made a new clip today for righeads & riggers. it shows the nitty gritty of attaching monitors and mics with stub clamps. The clamps are 2 piece so they can be placed anywhere. Tripod leg. C-stand arm. I think they are the smallest clamp made which was the big idea. Save room, fit anywhere. About $50 apiece plus a bit for the optional thumbscrews.

Small HD gives 'HD' Vision, Sanken CS2 onboard, Lav receiver

Hawkwoods powers camera and monitor

Shown is kit lens but I also use Nikkors

Rig is desinged to hug the shoulder and provide handheld balance, there is a 501 tucked away to drop onto my sticks..

Morgan or any other SmallHD DP6 / FS!00 users: How do you like using the Small HD6 / sun hood as a viewfinder? I'm considering that so that I could use the DP6 as a client monitor when I'm not going handhelp. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks!
Kyle

I have one, it a good enhancement, may not be necessary, in any case buy it today, Monday 11/28/11, and get 10% off, you won't see this opportunity often.

For operating the sunhood is critical .. in fact why I bought the monitor not the TVlogic version of simillar spec

I still feel the DP6 is the best 'cheap' viewing solution

On my rig I view the DP6 to operate and the client might be able to see the onboard monitor

With the DP 6 and last scene review on the FS100, your subject can get instant feedback for better shots.

DP6 has higher ress, but is bigger heavier, its a trade off,

IMO the DP4 is not at a sweet spot because there are smaller EVFs and better monitors

But that is just my opinion

While I respect Mr Moore's opinion, I tend to prefer the DP4 to the DP6 for on cam monitoring. The DP6 is a bit big for my taste on cam. The res of the DP4 is perfect for it's size, so resolution is not an issue. The EVF option is great. It's more like a glorified sun hood than a true EVF, but it is so versatile! at 4.3", the monitor can truly be used as a monitor, while the competition (like the ZACUTO EVF) are just too small à 3" to be used as a monitor. You get the best of both world. And the DP4 has HDMI looptrough, something missing from the DP6.

I love the size of my DP6. I wouldn't want a smaller monitor.

smallHD have hinted they may be working on a dedicated EVF. If that comes to be then I'll be first in line. Then I will (literally) have the best of both worlds. DP6 for serious locked down work and DP2? for when I want a light rig etc
