FS5: Shoulder rig

This will definitely have been discussed but I'm struggling on the search for it so if anyone can point me to a good discussion about shoulder rigs for the FS5 that'd be great thank you! If not, but you do use a shoulder rig, any suggestions? I'm currently looking at the Zacuto VCT Pro Baseplate as a possibility. Thanks!

I have used the "CowboyStudio Shoulder Support" With a Calumet quick release plate so I can swap between the Manfroto& Calumet Tripods with Video Heads and the shoulder mount.

With the included strap you can run, hands free, without the camera and mount coming off the shoulder. Verty usefull for news and documentary.... though I don't recommend running and shooting

I use the wooden camera unified baseplate for my FS7 and it really works well for me. What makes it so good is that you can slide the camera on the shoulder pad and the rods move with the camera. If you use a heavy lens plus mattebox plus followfocus and want to slide the camera back on your shoulder, you can actually do that and everything moves together. Not so with the Zacuto thing, move the camera back and you will be running out of rod space quickly, especially if you use a short lens...

Curious how you're using the W/C unified baseplate as part of a shoulder rig Martin. I currently use the Zacuto universal VCT V1 (needs a screwdriver to adjust fore/aft balance). I'm otherwise happy with the plate/rods and particularly shoulder pad, but have been considering upgrading to the V2 with quick-release balance adjustment. Your mention of the moving rods made me look at the W/C competitor, but it doesn't look very easily adapted to make it useable for shoulder work.

Can you shed some more light on your overall setup, ideally with a pic if possible!

Hi Jason, I have the wooden camera shoulder pad for the unified baseplate, it works with vct 14 plates as well, that's how I use it most of the times. I also love the adpter support of the w/c baseplate, works great.
