shoulder mount

I have mentioned before that what erks me about the panasonic cameras are that they are not shoulder mountable. For somebody that needs this option and wants what the camera has to offer, are there options to do this? The new camera sounds great but because it is not this type of camcorder, it seems limited in the way people might use it to shoot with. I have seen varizooms mount and I'm not impressed. Anybody know of other products out there that I could use with the new panasonic coming out? Thanks.

Might want to see if they have an Image 2000 shoulder support version for the AG-HVX200:

I believe Kai has one for his AG-DVX100A. Will run you about $400 from B&H Photo or Birns & Sawyer. If EVS Online has it, go with them.

I have that one, however I got it for $199 and I still think that's a pretty steep price for it. Don't remember where I got it though. I searched around online. I can't justify a $400 price tag on that.

DVproRig is considered the best of the bunch. I have an inexpensive shoulder mount by innovator $100 or there abouts that does the trick. It just depends on how much shooting you're going to do with it.

I have had the DVrig pro now, for about 1 1/2 years, and I still say it is one of the best investments I have made for my DVX, and any future camera that I buy as well. IT is better than a shoulder mount, much steadier, and takes a lot of the weaight of the camera, and distributes it through your whole body. IF you want a great way to walk around with your camera, the DVrig pro, is the way to go.

I like the form factor, I hope they never change it. One day when I have an HVX I'll use it with my fig rig. If I feel like shoulder mounting I'll get a spiderbrace or something. I like to have options, shoulder mountable cameras don't have the option of shrinking but smaller cams can have stuff added to them.

Actually I didn't mean where do I find it. Ecking said he had one and so I was asking if he thought it was worth getting or had any other comments about it. I didn't find any reviews on-line.

The figrig is definitely worth buying for shooting short walking segments in steadicam-style smoothness but in a very compact low cost device. I don't mean it will duplicate a steadicam, but for the money it is pretty cool, and gives positions for mounting lights, shotgun, and other devices. It also sits nicely on a table or in your lap for shooting longer interviews. But I can't hold it that long while running around behind a set. For longer periods of time, I have to have a DVrigPro. I just shot 20 hrs in one stretch this weekend, and I couldn't have done it without the DVrig. Some people say the monopods are better, but I can't transition as smoothly from Point A to Point B with a Monopod. I heard the Orbiter is finally coming out soon, and I can't wait to try that too.

The DVRigPro and the PAG orbiter are the only options for me really. They put all the weight on your waist so you can keep on going all day without fatigue. And you can use those like a figrig aswell. And rush, I've tried the orbiter at IBC and it workd like a charm. I just forgot to test how high it can go up. But it gives you the ability to pan aswell. Very useful indeed. :)

PAG orbiter....

PAG orbiter....

I'd like to check out the PAG orbiter. What's the link?

That is such a great company, if they make that device as well as their on-camera lights (like the Pag C6), we are in for an excellent new cam support. I really value the high-grade products coming from the UK, like Pag, Rycote and Lightwave.:)

PAG Orbiter

PAG Orbiter

Can you tell me about the PAG orbiter? I am interested in getting a DVrigPro but thought the Pag Orbiter might be another good consideration. I know the latter is about $30 more expensive or so but is the construction better? I heard that so of the knobs are more complex than the DVRig which may be a negative or that it can't tilt.

Can you help me seperate the grain from the chaff and figure out what I should get? I ideally want a vest stabilization system with the mobility and stability that is provided with a DVRigPro, but the Steadicam/Glidecam stuff is probably way out of my budget and not meant to be worn 8 hour days. What should I get that is within a $1500-$2000 budget if the DVX100B is the only purchase that I have? I have two projects coming up and I just want to be a little more prepared. Microphone, tripod, or stabilization device?

Thanks

Shuo

Ive been lucky enough to try out the pag orbitor from one of my suppliers here in the u.k.
As Im of the larger xl type frame The pag orbitor wasnt for me.
Consequently after receiving our hvx200 we took the opportunity to purchase the dvrig pro .....this was more like it much more comfortable and strong stabillity all round. The only thing now is its getting a bit of a Christmas tree with larger battery, marshall monitor and batteries etc, and this is before any larger mics or lights get fitted aswell.
So from my perspective dvrig pro ..............
Whilst on this stabillity subject could some of you answer me this.
Is it me or am I the only one...............When first testing out the hvx200 do or did you find it almost impossible to keep any shots still just hand held?
I remember adjusting the wrist/hand strap in all sorts of tolerances but still couldnt get a truly smooth shot just handheld?
[ois on inthe hand ois off on the tripod]

I'm trying to figure out what shoulder mount to get as well. My rig is getting quite big though so I don't think DVprorig or Orbitor would work for me. I have the the HVX, with the the RedRock M2 adapter, then the Nikon Lens on the end of that. Add a follow focus and a mattebox, then mount the Marshall monitor on top. It's big and probably will only get bigger out the back when the RedRock Powerpod comes out.

Since I have Rod supports because of the M2, I know Cavision has some shoulder mounts that are basically just handles and go on the rods, and a shoulder mount that goes on the rod. Anyone use these and have any feedback.

Here's the links:

Don't know the price because they don't list it on the site, which is kind of weak if you ask me. So I'm going to shoot them an email.

As good as the DVRig looks... I'm not digging the whole belt mount thing, but it's that very device that takes the weight.

Are there any simple shoulder supports that offer some other way to balance the rig?
I've used unbalanced shoulder mounted cameras, and it really doesn't help with stability at all.
