C100: Shoulder mount - relocated/no top handle?

Lately I've been shoulder mounting my c100 and I hate how much the top handle sticks up. It's just obtrusive. But when I take it off there's no audio being picked up.. That's ok for most of what I shoot but are there any other options?

i was thinking about sticking a simple Rode mic with a hot shoe and jacking in to the mic input.

Is anyone else doing anything like this?

I do that with lavs on a gimbal. You should check out the a box from wooden camera

I do it when I want to shoot handheld, low key and look like a tourist or still photographer. I am not picky about which mic I mount, could be a Røde, Sennheiser, even some old Sonys I have laying around. It's just for crap quality ambient so why buy something good?

Make sure the mic is powered. C100 doesn't have any plug in power.
