GH2 Should I natively edit the .mts or log and transfer?

Like the titles says, I'm wondering which would be best in terms of quality. I only assume that the conversion to ProRes reduces image quality. Seems like a shame to go to all the work to find the right hack then turn the quality back down before you even start your post work.

There is advantages to transcoding. Smaller file sizes for HD space, speed. It also helps with the chroma red channel for smoothing out the jagged edges a bit.

You will not lose quality going from a lossy consumer codec to a lossless production codec. I personally transcode to prores4444, I know it's overkill but I like knowing I'm doing any post work with full color resolution.

Yeah, if you're running a NLE that can handle mts natively, the purpose of transcoding will mostly be for any subtle changes to the footage you detect by following that workflow Kholi, or others, have outlined.

Then again, I may be confusing your question of working natively with mts with working with Final Cut's mts importer, which is inferior to 5DtoRGB.
