I heard a lot of great things about DVX 100A and I wanted to get the new model DVX100B but I heard its not as good as DVX100A. Mainly dealing with Chroma loss?????? Is it really that bad of a camera. Any Feed back is great or if you have other suggests on top of the line SD cameras. Thanks!

P.S. I'm also looking for trusworthy sites or people to buy it from. Thanks!

Could you post a link to where you heard that the DVX100b is not as good as the A? The B is an improvement on the A.

I would not get the DVX. I know some would say that HD is still a ways away from dominating the market but its only a matter of time and your DVX will lose considerable value in the next year. Depending what you are planning to do, I would wait till the Red Scarlet comes out sometime next year. I have bought a canon hv30 to do tide me over until Scarlet arrives.

Depends on your budget and projects. You wrote you wanted SD, so you can get some good deals on a 100b (under 2000 and dropping). Scarlet looks sweet on paper, but I don't have any experience with it.

Cameras do lose retail value over time (Scarlett will, also), but they don't lose production value if they meet the demands of your project. I've seen some really good 16mm shorts lately and it was the right camera for the project.

Again, in SD, DVX is a proven commodity. I would buy it and spend the extra money on good equipment. Remember, its not the camera as much as the filmmaker that determines the product.

I bet if you go onto a forum for the Canon XH-A1 and ask the same question you will generate a different response.

If I were buying a DVX (and I would never give Panasonic another penny BTW) I would definitely get the "B" model. Parts can be an issue with the "A" model.

Can I ask why you would never buy a panny again? Can I also ask what your shooting with. AS I feel the same way about the Canons, as I owned a point and shoot, a gl2 and an xh-a1 and the first 2 both had the infamous eject the tape message, and the xh-a1 has some serious limitations as far as im concerned. I was looking at going to the hpx170 when the time comes, however I am most deffinately intereted in hearing what red has in store with scarlet. For now, I shoot on my trusty dvx100b, has yet to let me down.

'B' is better than A, no question, but they're all good. If you want to shoot squeeze mode 16:9, you won't be able to see the true image through the DVX100A, only a squashed image. You can see the true image with the B.

I would never buy a Panny again because I am among the minority that have had issues with their DVX. I had a few durability issues and then some parts availability issues followed by some parts unavailability issues. All with the "A" model. It has about 125 hours and it sits on a shelf collecting dust as I type. Sad really.

I do own the Canon A1 and love it, never had any limitations with the camera. I tried the GL2 and didn't like it, I also had a XL1s for about 6 months and did not like it either. I decided to give the A1 a shot and love it!! IMO It has everything the DVX has plus HDV and durability. I just got back from a shoot where I banged the A1 off a number of rocks that would have definitely broken the focus ring off of the DVX and only scratched the lens hood on the A1. Again, I think I am in the minority with the durability issues (either that or I am harder on cameras than most). I would have owned at least a couple of HVXs by now if it were not for the problems I have had with the DVX and my personal pledge to not own any more Panasonic products. I am sure the "B" is an improvement of the "A" and would be a good camera for someone other than myself.
