Should I buy a Panasonic Kit lens with my GH3

I am just about to place an order for a GH3. I have no lens whatsoever (just sold my HMC-150). Should I buy one of the Panasonic kit lens? My principal use will be for video (weddings etc). What is the trade off of using another brand? Will it affect the auto-focus speed and accuracy? What would you suggest as a beginner's lens? My budget is 3 000$ including the body and extra battery. Thanks!

The 12-35mm f/2.8 kit lens is about as good as it gets for zooms in this focal-length range. ( equivalent to 24-70mm f/2.8 with al Full Frame 35mm camera ) You should be able to buy the GH3 body with this lens for $2,400 or less.

Going with another brand will likely mean no optical image stabilization ( important for hand-held work ) and you may sacrifice some of the wide end.

Eventually there will be other brands to compete with the Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8, but right now it's the only game in town for a fast image stabilized zoom for the GH3.

For weddings, you will need both the 12-25 and the 35-100, so plan on that.

Get the 35-100 first (ceremonies) and the 20mm 1.7 (receptions) to hold you over until you can add the 12-35 (also receptions).

You may also want to think about the 14-140, not very fast but gives a good picture. Depends on how much of an issue changing lenses is.
