hey guys, obviously one nevers knows but i dont want to spend 4000 from bhphotovideo.com and then 4 months later panasonic comes out with a new model and the dvx100b drops 1000 bucks. shouls i wait, or buy one now? thanks

its always possible I guess. DVX isnt 4k either. Sounds like hard earned money, if you want to wait for panasonic then do so. There is always a 4k Canon HD option now.

I've seen some really great deals on this forum lately. Camera, tripod, case, Barry DVD, extra battery, UV filter, shotgun mic all for under 3k.. wow.

"New" is awesome and all but given the choice between the exact same functionality and a 33% off- in hindsight I'd have bought used. Somethinng to consider. The new Canon is looking good too.

old age debate......i doubt htat pannasonic will come out wif another dvx...plus the hvx has tape recording also.

I had that same attituted, oh i hsould wait, wait. Well what was i waiting for? I got my dvx100a, and yes the B came out a year ltr...so. It doesnt matter what camera u got man, as long as u have something good to make.

This is such a no brainer, IMHO. Nobody, and I mean nobody should pay anywhere near $4K for a DVX at this point... since you can get the Canon A1 for $3.5K, and that's a way better camera all around. Quite honestly, if you were to be buying today I'm not sure why you'd pick the DVX. My philosophy is not to wait - life's too short and you'll wait forever. And that means no Panasonic camera for me. If I were to wait though, this is not the very worst time... wait should not be too long... panny must come out with something to compete against Canon and Sony, because there's no way on earth to charge more than $2K for what the DVX gives you today given the options in other cameras... and obviously, they're not going to drop the price to 2K... so it's either lose sales totally, or come out with a competitor to the V1/A1... and HVX cannot be that IMHO, unless they drop the price to match the V1/A1, which in turn would mean price for the DVX would have to sink unrealistically low, so they have to come out with another camera soon!

Again though, as it stands today, DVX is not a tempting camera given the competition and price (IMHO, YMMV).

I would still like to have a DVX100, but I agree the price needs to come down. Used price are even worse. With all the new camera's out I would like to pay about $2000 for a new DVX100. Just dreaming I know. But when you see people getting the A1 for $3500 and the DVX is still there too!

I was in the same boat until today. A few weeks ago, I was still contemplating if I should go for the HVX and spend a lot more money or just go with the DVX.

With HD getting very popular, I was afraid the DVX would be obselete.

But after watching 'Love Conquers All', winner of the FIPRESCI Award (Prize of the International Film Critics) and New Currents Award (Best New Asian Filmmaker of the Year) in the 11th Pusan International Film Festival today in the theaters, I can safely conclude that the DVX projected on a 10K projector on the big screen can go head to head with 35mm.

If no one told me it was shoot on DV, I would have thought it was film. Warm, lush, and vivid, theI think DVX will be around for a long time.

yo coffee, im curious to know how you like the XL A1 from canon?

How is the 24F? Is it basically like the 24p mode on the dvx? without the advanced pulldown? i.e. 24p in a 30 timeline?

Is it really stroby like the sony 24f?

Hows the HD quality?

It seems like now that you can buy cheap HD cams it is the end of SD. I think we will be seeing some great stuff for years getting made with the DVX and other SD cameras.

Works fine.

Yep.

There is no pulldown in 24F.

It's nothing like Sony's CineFrame 24. Canon's 24F displays proper motion rendition and proper cadence. It does cause a slight lowering of resolution, but other than that it works just like 24P does.

I've had the camera for about three weeks maybe but I haven't played with it too much yet because I can't edit any of the footage yet. I need to upgrade FCP.... : (

From what I saw on playback from the camera directly to my 50 inch HD TV, I spent about an hour cleaning myself off because I "got too excited".... lol, j/k man. The image was unbelievable, I was beyond excited to know that I now had a tool that produced an image like the A1 does.
