Should I buy a DVX?

Hey,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I have had my eye on the DVX camera for a long time, and I wanted to get some people's opinion on the camera. Thanks for all your help.

Hmmmm. You're on a DVX forum. Now, I wonder what kind of answers you're going to get? A lot is going to depend upon what you want to do with the camera, but I don't see how you can go wrong for the price/value that you get...

I completely agree with Horse and Blaine, pick it up! If you've had your eye on it for awhile, go for it. What do you primarily want to do with it? Do you have the means to purchase it at this time? Give us more information...

wHAt are you waiting for?

best bang for buck. don't be a wuss. fork up the dinero and wait 4 UPS.

unless, of course, you don't think you'll use it much. in that case, leave the idea for someone who will put some major hours on those heads and show the world something to remember.

Thanks for the quick responses. In answer to your questions Brandon, I would like to use the camera for some wildlife photography (as I live in the Angeles National Forest) and some small narrative projects. I do have the money to buy it, but I've been trying to do my research as much as I can. Thanks for the replies. Do you guys think that the camera is good for nature shooting? thanks.

Jake,

I got my camera about a month ago after long research between the DVX and the HVX. The bottom line- I didn't need HVX right now and didn't want to deal with the work flow.
I could not be happier with my DVX- it is awesome and will suit me for some time to come. I only wished that I would've bought it sooner because I researched for over a year.
Great camera!!!

It pains me to say it, but if you are really into nature shooting you might want to look at the XL2, as it will have more long lens options for you.

If that doesn't float your boat, however, get the DVX!

Simply put 'yes'. You need one. Get it and you'll never be disappointed. This camera is king even in the world of HDV.

IMO of course.

but do you wait till after sept 30th? What will Panasonic offer after this rebat runs out?

Two weeks away. Could be better. Worse. The same. Do you like to gamble?

I think that you might want to get the focal length adapter for nature shooting. I think it will suit your purposes fine though. A guy on this board did some pretty incredible nature stuff with the DVX (disjecta). I think it will do you just fine....

And BTW, John's jokin' He loves the DVX, and is ALWAYS talking about the DVX mojo... :)

BTW. I live close to Angeles Crest, whereabouts are you?

Co-signed 100%. Unless you can get right up close to that pack of wild coyotes, you're gonna want a camera with a better zoom.

haha. This is exactly what I'm wondering. Maybe they end the rebate but drop the price $450, maybe there's a DVX100c just around the corner.

I suppose it doesn't matter what or when I decide, because the week after I make the purchase, that's when the big discount will happen.

We are only looking at a $350 rebate right now. It's nice, but it could be or get better.

I'd rather have more cash off than all that other stuff. I do want Barry's book if I get it.

I'm looking at about 3 camera's myself. I've decided to just take a chance. I'll wait till october to buy. But I really can't see the price of the DVX100 to getting higher.

But I've been wrong before.

Definitely get the DVX! Are you planning on buying one new or used? There are a fair bit of used dvx100a's out there these days going for very reasonable prices. I have two A's and I very satisfied. I also agree with Brandon about the focal length adapter, it makes quite a difference.

Wow, thank you all for the great replies! I have had a chance to see that website and I must say, that footage is really great. I think I'm finally sold. I'll be picking a DVX up very soon. Where's the best place to order one from? Thanks.
