Shot with DVX 100

If you can take a look at this clip of my short film titled "Hooka Face and the Virgin Boy" and leave feedback that would be great.

Shot with a DVX 100 in one night.
Budget: $175

Put it somewhere, where one does not have to register to view it. I don't have a Facebook account.

Occasionally someone may password protect a clip on Vimeo, but then usually puts it into the post when asking for feedback.

Have you tried clicking on the link? I believe it's public. I was not logged into Facebook, but still got to the video just fine.

Just tried it from a different system, and yes it comes up. Don't know why I got the Facebook registration/signon page before.

well since people have just talked about facebook and not the actual clip yet, i guess Ill start. I thought it was pretty funny, the two people had some good chemestry, i mean obvisouly the point was that it was sposed to be really awkward but they worked well togetehr. the documentary style shooting was cool, but in the rest of the film do they know the cameras are there or is it just the style your shooting and its sposed to be like noone is in the room

I like it. I'm a big fan of the handheld look, but at times it was a bit much. If you don't already have it on, use OIS. If you do, just be more careful with the movement.

Otherwise, it was pretty nice. I'd like to see at least one other camera angle, but surprisingly it wasn't very boring with just the one. A few of the guy's lines sounded a bit forced, too.

Overall, good job.

yeh i liked it.....the actors did pretty good. sometimes the girl was "acting" a bit...but overvall was good. the handheld as diedgo said got a bit much at times...and i also am surprised i didnt getbored with the one angle...but that could have been cuz the camera was still moving around. Just be careful not to overdo the handheld...cuz trust me, we will know its handheld without the "extra".
Oh and if u dont have the built in mic off...please turn it off...i heard the zoom ring when u whip zoomed on the guy.

Goodstuff.

to jambredz: that zoom ring clicked bothered me too, but i was able to fix it
to linkdafourf: the camera will be completely unobtrusive, and the characters are not aware of it

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Short, simple, funny.

Pretty well done, clearly could have a bit better sound/less handhelp and cleaned up a few things here and there, but you did a great job for just doing a short/small project.

Mind if I ask what you used your budget too? The Hotel Room?

thanks guys

to Jolfer: $150 went to the hotel, and the other $25 was split between a large pizza and tape stock...
speaking of which, in case anyone wanted to know (doubt it) the final project ended up being 11 minutes long... and we shot around 100 minutes worth of footage. Without the flexability of DV we wouldnt be able to roll for improv as much as we did. Gotta love it.

To me, the place looked too clean, and the young woman... well, to much like the girl next door... ok, not the girls next door where I grew up, but the girls next door when I would visit friends in suburbia... The girls next door where I lived in my youth, did take in gentlemen callers at most hours of the night, unless the police had come through...

Personally I wouldn't have probably noted the cleanliness of the room if it had been lit a bit darker... (would that be unlit...)...

I do think I like the camera verite look... but I'd probably like a few shots from 'above' rather than ones from just below eyelevel and from lower towards upper.

hi ctownfilm, did ya have much complications securring a hotel room? I have a few scenes set in a hotel room and I hear they generally want to see insurance.

poq im guessing he guerilla styled it and put the dvx in a bag and just shot. he didnt need any tripod or anything tthat would call attention to himself.

to POG: jambredz is correct, we shot guerilla style. when booking a hotel, DO NOT tell them you plan on shooting a film there, unless of course you have a decent budget and plan on getting permits.
actually you can pretty much steal shots anywhere, we found out. if you ask permission, theyll likely deny it, so just film where you want and act as if you cant be bothered(dont call too much attention to yourself, though)

Hi Ctownfilm, so you snuck everyone into the room? I guess you booked the room, perhaps the female actor was presumed your partner, then you had to sneak the other actor and sound recordist in? I mean i cant say i'v spend a lot of time in hotels, i assume some places would'nt notice non residents entering and leaving. So you call them on the phone and giv them the room no and sneak them in one by one. Plus if they have a public bar there gonna be non residents wandering around. Maybe i'm making it sound over complicated. I have a cast of three and two crew. The film is aprox 3min in lenght. I also have another scene from a feature project that is also set in a hotel room that has at least 6 cast and 2 crew. approx 15mins lenght.
